Lmb111514 chapter 1 . 1/18 This story was really beautiful to read... |
Marie Nomad chapter 1 . 2/21/2018 This fits into the canon well. I had read the comic and I can see America just feeling the burden of being a powerful nation and with that power comes a lot of responsibility. Loved how Canada just pitched in to help and somehow had England comforting America despite their issues. That's the way family is. Strong families are those that even if they drive each other nuts, they will support each other when the chips are down. |
scelecat chapter 1 . 3/13/2017 Yeah, it's too big an issue to blame on one country. I really wish someone would write a fic of someone, maybe Canada or England, getting that through the other countries' thick heads. |
jennyVDL93 chapter 1 . 1/14/2017 OHMYGOD You mentioned about England's politicians! Yes, I forgot which one and I forgot the source, but England politician(s) said The Great Depression happened because America was back in their isolationist mode and refuse to lead the world's economy. So, yeah, so much kudos for that! And their relationship was already in much better term post Spanish-American War and WWI, so thank you for their friendship relationship, that's accurate enough. This is very beautiful! And the way Canada and England cares. I could see it happening, cuz well, it's Britain who tremendously help America improved his economy by purchasing armaments in WWII. And France refuse to comfort America.. Yeah, it's in character in my opinion, he's kinda asshole and coward and remember that time France only taking advantage of other countries' wars? Besides, he was in poor condition too, so yeah.. This is sooooooo accurate I love thiss! |
Fi Suki Saki chapter 1 . 7/22/2014 Fic like this Always been my Favourite! x)) The Hurt, Cry, then Comfort with some Hug and Forehead Kiss... England is the best choice for this indeed... |
Youngbountygirl chapter 1 . 3/5/2014 I like this. I wish Hetalia would've gone into what happened during the Great Depression. This is really good. |
Wolfy46 chapter 1 . 5/25/2013 I loved this bit; "America chuckled with no mirth. "Still think you're my big brother?" "Only when you act like a complete idiot," England hissed. "Which is often, so yes."" |
BananasForMonkeys chapter 1 . 12/8/2012 I think it was interesting to see Canada as the one who is there to support America from the beginning. As someone who sat through learning about the Canadian side of the GD for months (yay History Class XD) it's apparent that the viewpoint a lot of Canadians seemed to have at the time was "Well the Depression started in America, but we wouldn't be going through it if we hadn't made the same mistakes and depended on them, so let's just try to get through it together." I wasn't alive at the time of course, my opinion hardly means anything, but it would be accurate to me to think that Canadians just sort of didn't bother putting the blame on anyone and worried more about getting through it. Although... I should mention that I found it a little weird that even though Mattie would have been going through almost the same thing as Alfred, he was perfectly fine and worrying more about Alfred's troubles than his own. I don't know if you were aware, but Canada and America were having a Great Depression at the same time to practically the same extent. So... just figured I'd point that out. If you did already know that, then I apologize XD |
CrimsonButterflyTearDrops018 chapter 1 . 4/1/2012 Aww this is so heartwarming. It makes me wanna burst. 3 3 Is there any chance of you making a sequel for this one? Like America goes down to help England and the others in World War 2? |
Trumpet-Geek chapter 1 . 3/31/2012 Hello there! So I found a few mistakes and I thought I'd get them out of the way first: 1. "...their blood turning cold on to start boiling, burning, searing as it tore through their body." The cold on to start boiling doesn't make any sense XD 2. "... inhuman aliment?" Aliment should be ailment. An aliment is something that nourishes and sustains, and an ailment is like an illness. 3. "But Canada knew even before asking he knew." Huh? 4. "...banking on closed doors..." I think you mean banging here. 5. "... took it upon himself to fret about the house like a wife where he fetched water and food when Canada thought America could keep it down." This should probably be made into two sentences, it's kinda run-off-y. 6. "Russia's cruel words had stuck him hard; "You are unable to take care of him now"." The Y in you doesn't need to be capitalized, and the period at the end should be inside the quotations. 7. "Others took her lead and hastily left having probably been tipped off by France." I think you mean their heads, unless there are other Mexicos running around. 8. "...physical affects..." Affects should be effects. Affect is when you change something, or influence something. Effect is the end result of something happening to you (or something else). Like an outcome. 9. "It seemed as if he had suddenly discarded anymore façade of disinterest." Anymore isn't necessary. Perhaps any, or the, or his would work instead. 10. "... overseeing England's underlying kindness." Overlooking. Overseeing is when you watch over something, like overseeing the work in a group project or something. 11. ""More of Europe wanted to kick me from my perch..." Most? 12. "...carefully placed faces..." Huh? I don't get where faces came from. ANYWAY. Yes. I hardly ever see Great Depression fics, so it was really nice to find this in my inbox. I enjoyed how you portrayed America as a public figure, and then again as a private figure. The two different 'sides' of him came together really well, and it makes sense that England would be the one he would break down in front of. I hope arh0 enjoyed this as much as the rest of us! |
animegirl1987 chapter 1 . 3/31/2012 I truly enjoyed this story. I really did and will continue to do so. I know I'll come back and read it again at least once. It was perfect, truly I can't think of another way to put it. I think it was very canon and I have seen the artwork that inspired this fic. I loved that too and knew immediately it was the Great Depression. I'm sure America did feel completely alone except for Canada and frankly I bet Canada felt rather alone as well. Like him I wouldn't have chosen England to be the one to comfort America after everything that had happened personally between the two. The awkwardness was brilliant, simply brilliant. Enough to be real and not too heavy to overcome. I really loved this. It's a great birthday present for your friend. Cheers! |
Tamitan chapter 1 . 3/31/2012 Awwwwwwwwwwwwwww my heart- I love the way you mixed canon!verse with this cute story, and Im telling you: I felt so happy inside with that hug "like equals". Beautiful! Thank you for this! |
Ahr0 chapter 1 . 3/30/2012 Hosh! That was incredible! Thank you so much for writing this! It was truly touching and you pulled off all of their emotions brilliantly! :D I've been dying to see this exact thing after that one fanart piece and you did it perfectly! I never expected any less. This was the best b-day present ever! Thank you~! 3 3 3 |
River Jaeger chapter 1 . 3/30/2012 I really like this! The characters and how concerned Canada was and their dialogue's were well written. And as a bit of a history nerd and a patriotic American I'm glad you pointed out that not only the U.S. was to blame for the crash. Even if, as you know, they had a big part. Kinda annoys me when the U.S. gets blamed for EVERYTHING. Anyways, i liked the story! It's going into my favs _ |
Teenage Mouse chapter 1 . 3/30/2012 I loved seeing this from Canada's point of view. You get to see how, even from the outside, these two really care about each other. I also loved the dynamic of their relationship right now. They're at a point in history where they're not friends, not enemies, not family, not lovers - they haven't really reconciled what they are to each other right now, but that unbreakable bond between them means they're still connected. It makes it kind of awkward for them that they still care about each other when they don't know what they are to each other. They don't know how to act. But in moments like this they'll do what comes naturally - look after each other - so you see how good their relationship is meant to be. Comforting!England was so sweet! You wrote him really well. A bit like a lecturing elder, but then falling into soothing because he can't bear to see America unhappy. It was really interesting and beautiful! |
