Radon65 chapter 1 . 11/9/2012 Aw. A very sweet little one shot. Well written, pretty good characterization. I liked John's opening three-paragraph introspection, particularly the bit about John asking Mycroft not to pick him up in cars like that because it's creepy and Mycroft's subsequent eyebrow-raise reaction. Also liked the parts about how Sherlock makes John tired and how John doesn't like having to leave his meals behind, and I particularly liked the last bit about John trying to shield Sherlock from the insults, and the way his motivations and feelings on the matter are described - "no matter how sociopathic he claims to be, John can't believe he LIKES hearing the muttered insults, or catching the dirty looks," "something in his chest curls up into a tight, protective ball," and "Sherlock might brush them off with a cold, careless smirk" being all three excellent descriptions, especially the third one. I can rather understand Sherlock's desire to simply hide the bruises, rather than deal with John's reaction to them - John will want to look at them and will react emotionally about it, and John doesn't NEED to look at them really because they're just bruises and they'll go away and John can't really make that happen faster and Sherlock doesn't want to deal with the emotional bit... Good character there. John's insistence on looking at them and Sherlock finally allowing him to do so for JOHN's sake rather than his own is very nice, and believable, and a subtle show of friendship. I felt that John was a little TOO self-accusatory here - he didn't notice the first bruises probably because Sherlock didn't want him to, and I was a little surprised he wasn't a bit more angry at Sherlock for not telling him, but he DID express annoyance, so that's fair enough. The last paragraph was very pleasant. I like how John made soup and Sherlock acquiesced to eating it, I can just picture John saying "Eat this," and Sherlock glancing up at him from his seat on the sofa and quietly picking up his spoon because he just WOULD. I also liked the description of Sherlock "curled cat-like around a bowl of soup," you have some very nice bits like that throughout the story, like the ones I mentioned earlier, and whether or not Sherlock would actually like The Simpsons, I like how he "brightens, bizarrely." The simplistic final theme of "this is just them" made a nice ending and the whole little domestic feel I got from the last paragraph was just very nice indeed. A good post-ep fic, and one I certainly enjoyed. |
Deanadelyon chapter 1 . 8/30/2012 This is lovely and quite perfect, and I love that Sherlock likes The Simpsons. Excellent job, very believable. :) Cheers! *B) |
CryptoSquirrel chapter 1 . 3/1/2012 Very sweet :) Thanks for sharing. |
SupernaturalGeek chapter 1 . 2/29/2012 I thoroughly enjoyed that. You captured both their voices perfectly and they felt completely in character the entire time. You also captured the friendship between them very well and I liked 'hearing' John's internal thoughts, particularly about how he feels when people are horrible to Sherlock. It reminded me of his behaviour in the second series and Sherlock's genuine cluelessness as to why it might bother John. I had so many favourite parts I could quote the entire story but I'm choosing to highlight this section because, to me, it perfectly sums up their lives together (outside of the near-death-excitement which comes when they're on a case); John tries hard to hide his smile, because he's got a vague, nagging suspicion that it's getting a bit soppy in its levels of affection. But it's Sherlock. This is what they do. Yeah, they solve crimes, John blogs about it, and Sherlock's day job is Being Brilliant In Ways You Lesser Mortals Cannot Hope To Mimic. But this is them, too. They lounge around 221B Baker Street in pyjamas and dressing gowns and drink tea and watch crappy television (or shout at it, as the case may be). Sherlock drives him up the wall, across the ceiling and down the other side, but that's just Sherlock, and he's just John. And this – this Wednesday afternoon, with Sherlock loudly pointing out the many inaccuracies in the logic of the latest TV dramas – this is just them. |
Backchatgirl chapter 1 . 2/28/2012 This is really good :) It was more than vaguely enjoyable, and I like reading these snippets of everyday life Sherlock/John stories. You put my WIPs to shame! (It's Miriam btw) |
starksnstripes chapter 1 . 2/28/2012 Oh, that was lovely! I needed something like this so bad after the pain of Reichenbach! Great job! :D |
