ARod2015 chapter 1 . 11/15/2018 Excellent story. I love everything about it. |
Attafuria chapter 1 . 4/19/2014 Really good. You even managed to give Elisabeth a human touch, probably more than she deserves really. Every bit of your story feels utterly believble. A real gem of a fan-fic! |
often reading chapter 1 . 1/26/2013 You have an amazing grasp of truly obscure Elizabethan idiom. One slight issue, though: Erszabet Batoroi was walled up in her bedroom until she died. Still, it was a magnificent attempt at a backstory. |
FellowsheepOfThePeen chapter 1 . 3/11/2012 givemesomevamp recommended your story at : *shameless Bitch pimpage ahead* The birds are chirping, a warmer breeze is blowing, and signs of spring are popping up like frickin’ daises everywhere I turn. So, naturally, I crave murder and blood, and this gem of a one-shot lures my dark side like an animated princess calls to forest creatures inexplicably versed in household chores. Deep underground in a London sewer, Alistair is brooding in such a manner that Edward is a novice in comparison when he gets an unexpected visitor. I burst out laughing, the first time in o’er one hundred and sixty years, from the surprise and absurdity of the situation. His golden eyes beheld me warily, no doubt taking in my less than proper countenance. I had not bothered with my dress for some time, allowing it to decay till the threads fluttered to the floor, finding their respite amongst the dirt. Everything about the being standing before me seemed out of place in my home. His clothing was impeccable; he wore a tricorne hat atop a powdered wig. The style of this age made it simpler for a vampire to blend in with the humans. He wore his long, narrow frock coat trimmed in beautiful gold braiding. His white woolen stockings were faultlessly clean, and the light blue breeches he wore o’er them were equally kept. The golden buckles on his shoes matched the exact hue of his eyes. Curiosity welled within as to what caused this particular vampire to have eyes akin to that of an angel instead of a demon. I was intrigued more by the color of his eyes than I had been about anything in the last century and a half, but not enough to seek his company. “Thou art sick in the world’s regard, wretched and low, a poor unminded outlaw sneaking home to thy kin. Hie thee hence!” And then… He took a step back and held his hands aloft. The golden-eyed man bowed his head slightly in a gesture of respect as he muttered, “I meant no harm, sir. My name is Carlisle and I have been searching for my sire for some years. I apologize for the intrusion.” I relaxed, my hands untangling from my hair and falling to my sides. Perhaps this Carlisle could at long last bring me my only wish: final death. From there, Alistair launches into his story, the reason behind his death wish: a woman, of course. I’m not going to give any spoilers, but history buffs might be particularly interested in the path this takes. It’s a work of fiction, yes, but you know you can always count on HammerHips to put in the leg work and mingle a little historical fact into our fantasy. One of the most fascinating things about this story is not only the unique take on an undeveloped canon character, but the fact that this fic gives us a solid basis for a relationship between Carlisle and this reclusive vampire who put his immortal life on the line when Carlisle needed help—even if only temporarily. I’m not sure what drew me to this fic so strongly at this light and cheery time of year… Maybe it’s the change-of-season allergy attack. Maybe it’s the week I’ve had in combination with the most recent NY Times Bestsellers list. Maybe it’s the fact that my muse is too busy moping with other traumatized muses to pay me the proper amount of attention, so I’ve had a bit of free time to fic dive. What I do know is that this is the story to cuddle up with on a dark night when your house is silent and you’re in the mood for a dark period piece. The creativity displayed here is what draws me back to the fandom every time I stray, and I hope you’ll give it a go and leave the awesome author some much-deserved love. |

Merina Green chapter 1 . 2/7/2012 I'd forgotten what a great story this was. I'm glad you put it back up! I love the background story on Alistair, and his tie to Carlisle. It makes sense. |
