DAMNED good story! I completely agree with your reasoning for placing ships near Sollie territory. How many times in the 19th & 20th century did various navies send out fleets to 'Show the Flag' all around the world? Often just Barely outside of recognized territorial waters. I've been told of a reputed cousin (many times removed) who was supposedly on board a US Navy gunboat that went up the Yangtze river Way back when, he carried a Krag-Jorgensen rifle to give you an idea of how long ago it was.

I was a soldier, a second generation paratrooper, for 10 years & I've seen similar 'interrogations' a small number of times. At times they Do work rather wellgrin.

Nearly every naval vessel that's been afloat has had Some sort of distillery and/or brewery onboard at one time or another. My Grandpa used to tell me about 'torpedo juice' from the days when torpedo's ran on alcohol powered steam turbine motorsgrin. That was rather dangerous stuff though, it was often denatured alcohol or had a toxic oil added to it.

Great beginning! For myself I can just about understand a female Andermani Intel officer giggling, unlike a couple of the other reviews. The Andermani are in many ways a bit...looser than the Manties, at least the females seem to be. Now, a Male Would grin thoughgrin.

This is excellent.
This story captured the flavor and action that David Weber has imbued in his series. I am a fan of the Honor Harrington series and the few fan fiction attempts that I have previously had the misfortune to read did not have the flavor of the books.
