It's good that Harry's home situation is being taken seriously. You've struck a sometimes difficult to attain balance in Dumbledore. He means well and he isn't stupid, but he isn't omniscient.
He has his blind spots, too. I can see why Severus still despises Lupin. He was innocent in the attack while he was transformed, yes. What about every other time, before and after that night, that he just stood by and let his friends hurt other students? I wouldn't be sure he'd protect Harry if trouble found their door, either. If I were Severus, I'd fear that Remus would just hand Harry over to save his own skin. He's still a better choice than Lucius Malfoy, but I'm sure Severus will be finding reasons to stop by and check on Harry.

I'm sure the portraits told Dumbledore when the Marauders were hexing Snape, again, but I'm sure he filed that under entertainment.

How delightful that he considers attacks on Harry to be only moderately interesting. Then again, if he discovers Harry is a Horcrux, he might not be so concerned about the boy's life, as we found in The Prince's Tale.

But he realizes that he failed Severus, how special. Wait till he can give a million points to Gryffindor to make Harry feel special, that's much more important.

I hope he does realize that failing Severus over and over again could have worse consequences then Look #16?

This was wonderful. I loved your take on Dumbledore, it's one of the most human approaches I've ever seen. He truly is well-meaning, but can consider the tougher choices if circumstances require it. The evolution of Snape's relationship with Harry almost goes without saying Well done.
