It's almost 2020 and I still can't wait for the next chapter.. A story that I plan on rereading. Not sure if the last paragraph hinted at a possible relationship between Kanda and Vanya, but I'm happy with either direction it could go. I love the parent/child bond as well. Please dont end it here!

Stayed up all night playing catch up after finding this again. Worth it though! Your characters are very consistent and always engaging. Except M.L. but I want to smack his cannon self with the largest cast iron pan I can find too. So that's still a compliment. Can't wait to see where you take this next!

OMG okay, i've been reading this fic for such a long time and-
I'm french, and I learned english just to understand your fic better, and this is so GOOD!
AND I'M TRYING SO HARD NOT TO CRY, C'MON, I KNOW NTHANDA'S NOT DEAD BUT STILL. IT HURTS.
I can't tell you how much i love the way you write them, and i'm so attached to each of them...
And even more the dynamic between Kanda and the Crow. I'm not a big fan of Canon x OC and all, but this one ? I just wish i could read more and more and see their love running deeper every day, even if heartaches are inevitable. And dear god. Nthanda and Kanda.

Father and son. I- they are- How- i just want them to be together. They love each others so bad, the only way a father and his child can bound. DAMMIT I WANT TO CRY NOW !

Woah! So I've been lurking on this story for a while now... I am so glad that you updated! I really like the the world of Africa you've created (as it was in that time period). It's one of the most unique and well-crafted realities I've read on FFnet! Also the detail of when Kanda and Lavinia each rode into the city...what they looked like, seeing it through Vanya and Lenalee's eyes...felt like I was watching it in a movie. So well-written and dynamic!

I wish we got to read a little more action on Lenalee, but I'm sure her time will come and the scene with CROW in this chapter was supposed to be short and alarming anyway. I do wish there was more buildup to the scene where Vanya and Ellis update Malcolm on what happened to Nthanda and Lavinia - that there is bad news coming. I was almost expecting another action scene after Lenalee saw the three teleport away. There wasn't much foreboding to the denial I felt when I read that they fell in the water. But I'm sure that they are fine. Plus Nthanda has a little extra blood in him, I'm sure he's in a place where Kanda can reach him! I don't think we're getting rid of Lavinia just yet either - she's hard to shake off, haha. Thanks again for the post and can't wait for the next chapter!

Thank you for the update, even eight months later. It was most welcome. This hit me at a bittersweet time, having just learned that a good friend had recently passed away after a year and a half of struggling with cancer. My emotions are all over the place, but at the same time I feel so empty. And the subject matter of the chapter was particularly poignant. But as is the way with stories we can mold them any way we want, unlike life. I'm looking forward to whatever you write next because I know that sweet baby child is just waiting for his daddy and his mommy. I sincerely hope so. And pretty sure Lavinia is okay, too. Don't know about the crow though.

*grins* Well, well! I had expected them to be separated for perhaps a longer time—as they often are when the group breaks up. Looks like he’s not getting away from her that easily. *chuckles*
And Lenalee! Lenalee. When I read the previous chapter, I was so excited that he called her! She’s finally in! I love the element of complete trust they have between them—Kanda needs it, after everything he’s gone through on this mission. *glares at Leverrier* It was nice to see her perspective in this chapter, and how it’s revealed that there have been, to date, only three circumstances in which he required her help, counting this one.
And, oh, Lavinia, cosmic karmic retribution indeed XD Hang in there, dearie!
As always, the segments of the story with Vanya and Ellis were melancholic. Still, there’s a certain measure of hope in the second one, with her talk of turning the situation to her advantage and not catching them... I suppose all that’s left is to hope that she can pull it off and that the Loa won’t go berserk and end up ruining the plan, eh?

Well, that was intense ! You really like to make Kanda and Nthanda suffer lol. No, but this was a great read, I really felt for the characters, I like how Kanda is just nearly about to give up but it's just not in him to do so, he is a survivor through and through and I really don't think anyone else would be able to have protected Nthanda like he has and keep him alive through all this.

I liked how you included Lenalee so far and how you describe her relationship with Kanda, it feels natural.

I'm glad that you think there will be at least maybe 6 more chapters to go, although I am sad that this is coming to a close!

Mostly I think I read for escapism and to read stories about my favourite characters when theres very rare updates in the manga and such !

My heart aches for poor Vanya. Talk about being between a rock and a hard place. Hopefully with Ellis' help they can turn this mess around. *throws Malcolm into the depths of an ocean full of sharks* Ugh, just ugh.

On a lighter note, I don't detect anything missing. I think you're keeping up a good continuity with the back and forth focus on what's happening with each individual group, and eventually bringing it all together at the end. Much like the end of this chapter :) I must admit Kanda's guides through the storm gave me a bit of a chill, in a good way. And that's the kind of impact I've come to expect from this story.

Why do I read? That's a pretty tall order, pretty much all of the above you mentioned, and more I will never be able to put a name to. It's a bit like Zen. If you can explain it then it's not Zen.

And I've read so much over the years there's no way I can narrow it down to the best story. I guess it would be whatever is making me feel alive at the moment. I'm very much a here-and-now kind of person. So, right here, right now, this chapter is making my day. Everything is memorable as it culminates into the whole.

You know, I'll never understand how you can get me to blab so much. I'm not normally a very talkative person, so you can take that as the best compliment I can give.

I’ll thank you as I like. So there :) And yes, it’s still a lot of fun to read. You take me out of myself for a while, which is very welcome. You have no idea.

Nthanda was absolutely adorable in this chapter and the little party was a nice touch. You do a good job of keeping the balance between intense and giving the reader a break, which is important I think. It’s a shame he’s going to lose his dreams, though, but that’s just the bittersweetness of life.

Everyone has changed, and grown, somewhat, some more than others. It’s to be expected when a person meets people outside of their normal everyday. It’s going to change them, whether or not they want it to. Any little encounter can change the path people take; and the interactions I enjoyed the most (other than daddy Kanda) were Kanda and Din. I hope they get to meet again.

I definitely think that the characters have all change and grown since the start of this story. Lavinia perhaps in the most obvious way but everyone has a subtle growth to their characters. Kanda and Vanya seem more open and willing to let people get close to them and Kanda is much more considerate to other people's needs than he used to be, even if it's just a select few.

I really liked Lenalee's appearance in the story, her and Kanda are my favourite characters from DGM, so I'm really glad she will be included for part of this story! And I'm glad Kanda contacted her for help, I think she is one of the few people he would actually consider asking for help and not hang up on lol.

As always, I look forward to the next chapter (and I'm partially sad its nearing the end but only because I really enjoy this story!)

Welp, the party's been separated (again) and regrouped (again). I'm really, really thankful that Din didn't die, because I'm too emotionally invested to just take that lying down, but I will admit I was also a bit worried that you were being lenient on the characters—but, as always, you pulled through with that segment and conversation with Ellis, though I do continue to wonder if being a pencil pusher was all she was. I mean, earlier in the story she commented that she'd done the 'stalking' routine before, and I'm still very curious about that, among other things (WHAT HAPPENED BETWEEN KANDA AND VANYA? THE MYSTERY WAS NEVER REVEALED), but I digress.
So the CROW are aware of Vanya's hand in the escape, that's one thing explained, but... how, exactly, is she coping with all this? From what I can tell she's just closed herself off again emotionally, and thrown herself into her work, but aside from that one scene with Ellis last chapter there's not much else. This speaks volumes and, at the same time, nothing. Factoring in that her brother, who she was apparently emotionally codependent with, died at the start and she more or less latched on to her job as a coping mechanism, and the group over time, but now they're gone, too, and all that's left is Ellis and the dog. I'm worried about the effects this will have on her, and whether or not being an active CROW will keep her from spiraling into psychological/emotional ruin, and whether you do something with that or not is something I'll be keeping an eye out for.
Aside from that, the only thing I'd really like to comment on was Kanda's emotional and logical realism in response to Lavinia's question that he'd rather she had fallen out of the train instead of Din. I liked how it keeps him in his beliefs, but also shows his growth in that he didn't just respond rudely, but instead told her an honest truth that was far less damaging.
Okay, onto discussion! Well, basically Lavi's a little bleep, Allen's an even worse little bleep, Kanda's a foul mouthed jerk, and Lena's the only responsible one (lol). Basically. The characters are multi faceted but character analyses are beyond me at the moment. x) I've been fortunate enough to find some good authors, so generally everyone is much the same as how I view them in canon, some even handing me further insight on a golden platter and it's beautiful. I like to read about all of them, really, though if you're planning a new story I'd love to read one about Lenalee, perhaps in this timeline. I enjoy how you link together your stories but I'll talk a bit more about that later. The things that make your story stick out are the subject matter (Kanda raising a child, and then FWOOM—it just expands from there), the writing style (a lot of meat instead of copious use of dialogue), and... well, I think something that I remember you, as an author, by is how I see one of your stories and think to myself, oh, this is the one about Kanda, or oh, this one's the one about Lavi (which I still have not finished, gdi me), which doesn't really happen when I see other stories, and I feel this response is directly correlated to how in-depth they are and how much they go into the character's head, and it's not so much "oh it's about this character" as much as it's about "it's about interesting stuff happening to this character, and what makes them tick, and their messed up psychological issues because these people are seriously scarred someone help them(though that last is more Lavi than anything else)." And I like that a lot. I don't have a preference for setting because it's all beautiful, if we're referring only to your writing, though there are some enjoyable modern AUs I read in passing that I can't remember now. As for characters I'd like to pop up again... probably Lavi, honestly. XD I don't know how that timeline's working relative to this one, but I absolutely adore it when authors connect their works because that takes serious skill, organizational or otherwise, and it's like a little pocket or window to another dimension that adds a different aspect of sorts to the story (given that it's centered mainly on one canon character and then OCs that I don't want to be this emotionally invested in *sob* why are they all so colorful) and boosts the reading experience. Like, yeah, this thing is going on right now, but there's also another separate thing because the world keeps turning and this isn't all there is. Again, I didn't finish the other one, and I haven't gotten to the part where there's a bar brawl and Kanda calls him and whether or not he's actually looked into the matter of those marks in Vanya, but meh, I'll get to it someday...
Oh! And I have a question! How's Vanya's spirit thing doing? I mean, it seemed pretty interested in Kanda and Nthanda, and now they're gone, and also Vanya exerted will that was the exact opposite of orders and I feel like the spirit would be really proud of that and I just. Wonder.
