I had the exact same problems with that episode, and you fixed them perfectly. Even better, you captured Rimmer's pathos without sacrificing his personality or the show's inherent comedy. Well done! :D

This is a far more palatable version of the Rimmerworld episode. First off, you actually deal with the 'stress condition' news. I mean, the show brought it up, had Rimmer pull a few miserable-looking faces, and then dropped it. It seemed like it was only part of the episode to make a visual joke when we see how tiny the Chinese worry balls have gotten after six-hundred years of use. Here, you make it integral to the plot and, at the same time, balance out the faults of the characters more evenly than the TV version did. Lastly, in the show, it always seemed a bit odd that Rimmer was supposed to have six-hundred years worth of these memories distancing him from his crew-mates to the point he's got their names all confused, but after five minutes he's back to his ordinary self. By explaining it as a problem with his soft/hardware that they worked on fixing, it is far more reasonable to say that the status quo could be reapproached soon. Great fic there! Just like you, it bothered me how the heart-problem thing was just forgotten about as soon as they met that simulant; let alone that leaving the guys to die a rather certain death seemed a bit too selfish - even for Rimmer (IMO).

That was an excellent version of that episode, definitely better than the one that got aired. I agree with you, Rimmerworld was a weak premise, and the whole ep, especially when they finally got to Rimmerworld, seemed a bit rushed.

I love your writing, you've got all the characters personalities spot on. I'd love to see what you could do with other eps.

Awesome! I like the ending. I wished it didn't have that Rimmerworld Feel to it. Like the Teleporter and Program exiting being the same thing. I did like the ending though. T-Ball. And I like how Cat just let Lister get the smeg beaten out him.
