This hits hard in the heart. Choosing Fa Zhou(you're right, can't shorten it) as your pov character and having him reflect on the ways Mulan might die, or never return...ouch. This is a story that needed to be written, thanks for sharing.

Mulan is my favorite Disney movie (favorite Disney heroine!) and was really important to me as a little girl. I don't think I got to appreciate its darkness (relative to other Disney movies, because it's about war and how ugly war can be) until recent years, and I think you've captured part of that darkness and sadness here. This was really really well written and absolutely did justice to Fa Zhou. We saw his bleakness for a very very short moment in the film (right before Mulan steps up to him when she returns) and I think you've put all his despair into words quite perfectly.

This was great, and I kinda wish you had more!

out of all the disney father's i respect him the most since he had to go through so much during the movie with his little girl in so much danger yet he could not go after her just for her sake plus he nearly loses his daughter three times ( the avalance being discoverd as a woman and the fight with shan yu)

This is just incredible.

In the film, we mostly just get implications of what was going on at home while Mulan was away. I really like you detailing all the precautions taken so people won't realize she's gone, and the very strong possibility of her death that keeps preying on her father.
