I now absolutely adore Alaric now. I mean, I always did, but this fic makes me appreciate this even more. If only it was canon (and shown obviously in canon - why do they never have any family-esque moments in the tv show? So many missed opportunities for feels). Also, I really like the way you didn't ignore Tyler. He gets passed over too often in the world of fanfiction and to have him in this is wonderful. Thank you for the well written, adorable fic. You have great talent, especially in your composition of the story.

This was so beautifully written. It was simple and powerful. I think while watching the show, it's easy to forget how they are just teenagers. You captured the innocence that I think is missing a lot of the time. I just really appreciate how well this came out. Thank you for writing it.

Oh goodness. You've made me cry. Your portrayal of Alaric and the "Scooby Gang" is so spot on I can't even put it into words. You capture the kids as what they are-kids. Not as all-powerful supernatural beings, but as teenagers with messed up lives. And Alaric is the father for all of them.

I loved your story! It was so funny and beautiful. I was laughing so hard at the "rules". Especially liked the "no compelling unless it's an emergency or Jeremy's about to do something stupid-rule". And the ghosts playing doctor, diagnosing poor Jeremy with different things. I also loved how you described the different characters and how Alaric takes care of all the kids, comforting Caroline, helping Bonnie with her grades ... Hes really there for all of them and I just loved that. I could imagine him and Damon grading papers together, drinking and just talking. And it was so funny when he called his mother and she asked if Jeremy was his lover. And his explanation. Well, its really not that easy to explain, is it? Really felt for poor Jeremy when those ghosts in the hospital were haunting him. The ending was just beautiful. How Alaric categorizes himself, thinking he cant be a patriarch, although "old lady Clark" is right. And I dont think he needs to read a parenting book. Hes doing just fine. I really miss Ric on the show, so thank you for this wonderful piece of fiction. Ive read it about five times now and just cant get enough.

I love this story, it's one of my favorites, it makes me cry but it's sad and wonderful. It's really sad though because Ric doesn't know that the next crisis (besides Klaus) will be him. I love this story though, and I love Jeremy.

I've always wondered how Alaric coped after Jenna's death, what with being a supernatural hunter of sorts, friend to a homicidal vampire (Damon) AND being sudden parental figure. You fed my thirst! Well written depiction of Alaric, and I particularly love the whole homework bit. Indeed, with all that saving of the world one had to do, who cares about calcalus? ;) But Alaric does - I like that.

I noticed that you only wrote one VD fanfic. Hope you'll write more. It's incredibly hard to find fanfics like yours, especially those not involving the Damon-Elena-Stean eternal love triangle ...

aww this story was so bittersweet but I loved it! Especially the part where Alaric was so worried he forgot he never told his mom about Elena and Jeremy! It was great and that would make such a great side story to this! No one ever seems to write reaction pieces about what random obscure family members think from an outsiders perspective..

This is exactly the kind of story I was looking for! I think someone really needs to consider how much parenting Alaric does for kids that he absolutely did not need to care for. Superb!
