Animedemons chapter 17 . 12/4/2018 At first i was impressed. Nice and interesting plot and very relaistic dipictions of Eric and Kyle but after chapter 6, i felt like i was reading the same chapter over and over again with a different punch line. Their relationship didnt really progress. It stayed the same the entire story. This could have been amazing but i feel that Kyle was more of a bitch in this than the actual Kyle Broflovski. The story even says that he is smart so i dont think he should have nearly that much trouble. I still read all the way to the end though because this story had some good points too. But lets be honest for a minute. If Kyle left Cartman and even said at the begging that his life would be over without Kyle. Either one: he would chase after Kyle (and kyle never runs from a challenge) or two: he would have given up on life and killed himself, making sure that Kyle would find out. :/ very disappointed to say the least. The plot was so interesting and then went stale |
InTheMist032000 chapter 17 . 3/12/2016 I am so pissed off. This was a phenomenal read, until the end. Now I just feel like this was a phenomenal waste of my time. I was wondering since some time around chapter 10, how the hell this was all going to wrap up, when the last chapter is still in summer, they still have senior year, I'm half way through the story, and they're still playing cat and mouse. I swear, I must have checked to make sure the story was complete about 10 times to reassure myself that there was no need to worry. Then I come to that press to read the author's note at the beginning of the last chapter and red flags shot up so fast, I read it immediately, because I did not have a good feeling about it. Boy, I wish I wasn't right. Now I don't even want to finish reading the chapter, because what's the point now? What a ball-buster, seriously. For the most part, I enjoyed the story, and I loved how many references there were to events in the show, but one thing that really bugged me was how Kyle felt... close to, but not quite in character, a good bit of the time. He's a firecracker, for sure, but there were a lot of scenes where he just came across as a flaky, whiny little bitch, and that is not Kyle Broflovski. Granted, he was no where near as bad as many other fics portray him, but I never really got that this-is-Kyle feeling either. He is so much smarter, stronger, and resourceful, than this story gave him credit for, and I feel like there's no way he would have let Cartman get away with having that much control, for that long, and especially not without realizing the control he had over him along the way, without it having to be spelled out for him (twice! from Cartman AND Wendy)! I feel like he would have spared us half the bullshit instead, and really buckle down to either stop Cartman, figure out what he's really up to or how he feels about him, and vice versa (and speaking of - what the hell even happened with the college stuff? The whole point and driving plot of the story?). This Kyle, for the most part, just went along with everything and then bitched about it later. And, yeah, Kyle would fight Cartman the entire way, but the way it happened here just felt wrong somehow. There were moments where it felt like things just got out of hand in a way that didn't make sense and like a fight happened just for the hell of it, which, honestly? It got annoying after a while. I'm all for a good tease, but there wasn't much playfulness, if any, to the majority of the times they pulled apart; just increased tension and frustration that never really gets handled, let alone resolved, which means there's never any relief for the reader, which sucks. Like GOD, did it really have to be fight after fight? One blow-up after the other? Why couldn't there just be some playful back and forth once in a while, where one of them DIDN'T fuck it up in some way? Instead, misunderstandings just keep piling onto each other, Kyle is never as straightforward as he should be to be in character (at least not when it really counts - which just feels like a shitty device to keep the turmoil going), and Eric is also surprisingly just kind of rolling with it, too. He has his moments where he gets fed up, but he never really, truly, walks away, which I felt needed to happen. Which brings me to the one thing that disappointed me the most, if I were to pinpoint it: that scene in chapter 15, in the field. Things reach a pivotal point; the climax; the part where shit should really be going down and a change happens. And oh boy, is it crazy and intense - Eric snapping after Kyle breaks his heart, but then... then they come together again so quickly - within the same scene! - I swear I got whiplash from it. Cartman didn't read at all as being manipulative, and actually came across as very genuinely vulnerable and hurt, just trying to hide it with aggression. And then you go and cheapen that by having things play out the way they did. It underplayed and belittled the very real heartbreak from just moments before. I felt like he SHOULD have walked away. He SHOULD have left Kyle there, so blinded in his grief and not being able to think straight that it's the only thing he CAN do. Maybe then, Kyle would finally understand (even better, realize that, holy shit, he just broke Eric Cartman's heart - humanize Eric in Kyle's eyes). Instead, suddenly things are ok and Cartman's laughing and racing him to the car? What? It had me wondering what the hell I missed, because clearly it was crucial. You completely ruined the perfect chance to change Kyle's mind and open the door to a relationship that could really work. That moment is where the story really went downhill, and it didn't get better. It was anticlimactic to say the last and felt like a betrayal to Cartman's feelings for Kyle, because it made it seem like he really was just manipulating him, still, even though everything we know as the reader says otherwise. Which just makes the scene lose its impact, because that's not believable anymore, at this point. But still, it's written out to be just the same shit that's been happening the past 14 chapters! Also, just because I have to point this out, I didn't like how Kyle just brushed off that huge reveal of Cartman's traumatic nightmare in chapter 13, in favor of pointing out YET AGAIN his shortcomings, when that could have been a serious bonding moment between them and real progress. If it's not going to be used to develop anything, it doesn't need to be said. All that did was make me sympathize with Eric and think Kyle the insensitive asshole, which I don't think you meant to do. Above all, what ground my gears the most was how they never really came together, and I don't mean just in the end. Not once, in all 130k words, did they find real, common, mutual ground with each other. Not even in sex! Even with the fucking stargazing, they couldn't just chill and enjoy each other's company - one had to ruin it on the balcony, the other had to go and ruin it on the field! It never got to the point where I felt this could really work for them or that, wow, yes, they should totally be together - which pisses me off, because that's why I chose to read a Kyman fic in the first place! Doesn't matter if they end up together in the end (though it's preferable), there should be some meat and substance to their relationship in the story for the end to have an impact, regardless if it's happy or sad. So much for the Romance/Humor this is filed under. |
SoulMore chapter 17 . 10/11/2014 FAN! |
shortstackedcheesecake chapter 17 . 12/13/2013 Okay, I have to say I really enjoyed this fanfiction! I laughed. I cried. I squealed. I think you both did such an awesome job! I had so much sympathy for Cartman in this story (well, I have sympathy for that kid all the time... it's worrying) and when he was upset/frustrated/confused with Kyle I wanted to reach out, hug him, make him a cup of tea and reassure him everything was fine. So, yeah, it's pretty awesome that you made me feel so invested! However, I did feel like shaking Kyle and giving him a tough love speech over how... I don't know what the word is... Dismissive? Hesitant he is? I completely understand his insecurities about the whole thing but I really do believe that Kyle is tough and smart enough to be able to figure out his feelings quicker. But maybe this just was because I was feeling second-hand frustration? I don't know. Also, this part THIS PART fucking crushed me "Kyle is currently dating someone else" I thought of little heartbroken Eric and, God damn, it broke me. But overall I was completely addicted to this fanfiction and even through the second hand frustration and heartbreak, it was so fun to read... Amazing! |
ImmortalFangirl chapter 17 . 11/22/2013 This story made me angry to say the least. The reason why was because I enjoyed so many parts of it but hated others. I think you guys really demonstrated well how their relationship would really work! But... Sometimes I think it was too extreme. Idk Kyle would ever be that confused. He's a smart kid and would either look past that crap or end it. I also found that your different writing styles clashed a lot making me tell that two people had a part in it. I think you didn't pay enough attention to other characters. If seemed so focused on just Kyle and Cartman it was like no one else existed for awhile. You guys almost seemed afraid to bring in other South Park characters. Now for the ending. Oh god. I understand if real life complications don't allow you to finish a fic but don't crush us like that! You should have just left it at that last sentence! Sure we would be confused about the colledge thing and butters and if they tell Stan but at least we would have a sweet ending full of hope for their future! But instead you told us flat out 'it doesn't work out and Kyle hooks up with someone else.' I mean wtf? I didn't just spend five days working through a Kyman fanfic to be told in a few sentences that the whole build up failed and the one thing that we hoped for didn't work out. Break them up if you want to, even have a depressing ending where cartman kills himself even! Anything is better than what was left off. Would a short epilogue kill you? I just wanted a feeling of at least completion we other it was happy or sad. Not just some flat out dream killer moment that made me feel more upset than if the break up has been written out in an aftermath! I guess I appreciate the RP thingy but I can't follow that. This story had its moments and could have really come together for good or bad at the end but it didn't. As always I still respect your story and I am happy I read it ending and all. Sorry if I ranted a bit it's just something I do after finishing a fanfic good or bad. Especially Kyman. Anyway, Immortal Fangirl out. |
