Reviews for The Stuff of Nightmares
Mondhase chapter 1 . 4/4/2019
Lovely story! It's nice to see Rapunzel's parents help her deal with what she went through and in general to see a take on their relationship so many years before the TV show hit the air.

I'll admit that it was maybe a bit heavy on the recap part, but as you said, being able to see the King's and Queen's reaction made it absolutely worth it. Great job!

Well let me just say off the bat that I am EAGERLY awaiting chapter two! I'll subscribe to make sure I don't miss it.

You write well. Very, very well. Your ability to convey emotion is SCARY good, and showcased quite handsomely in this story.

I can't really say enough good things about "Tangled" and it seems you feel the same way. The scene where he cut off her hair is arguably the most heroic thing ever committed to film. You've done a wonderful job here in showing - exploring, really - Rapunzel's reaction to his sacrifice. Kudos!

This also goes in Favorites. I'm Favoriting you as an author as well.

Yes-4-Yuffentine chapter 1 . 1/30/2011
I really loved this. Its what the film was missing I think. And you totally did them justice. I really enjoyed reading this as it was nice to have a scene involving her parents. I can't wait to read the second part!
funvince chapter 1 . 1/23/2011
I really like this. It's a novel take to have Rapunzel get comfort from her parents when she has a nightmare. You wrote some really nice family bonding moments.

My one nitpick is that I was wondering if Rapunzel had already explained to her parents at some point that she had had super-long magical hair that could heal. Because some points of the story she was telling wouldn't make sense to her parents without that context.

Other than that, I thought you wrote the Queen and King very well, which I'm sure can be difficult when they didn't speak at all in the movie!
fuyusarah chapter 1 . 1/20/2011
Oh, well done! I love how you've written this, and I love that you wrote it! You're right, we've seen stories involving nightmares, but I don't think I've seen one with the king and queen in focus.

I like how you've captured Rapunzel's emotions while telling the story. She's distraught and crying and almost babbling, but she makes enough sense and manages to squeeze out full sentences and it was NOT overkill. (Thank you for not making her wail.) And yet she also squishes and runs her story, seeing as she didn't really have the mind or composure to construct her story in an organized, detailed manner. And, you know what? It's PERFECT. Good job!

I love her parents! I love the Queen's gentleness, the King's humor, and how they interact with each other! And the implicated way as to how they interact with Eugene. I love how, even thought Eugene wasn't actually in the scene, we know that they've spent good amounts of time with him, and we know what they think of him, even though he wasn't explicitly the main topic of conversation.

Update soon!

LTAOZFAN chapter 1 . 1/20/2011
This is a good story! The King and Queen learn just what Rapunzel went through, and what Eugene was willing to give up for Rapunzel's sake. I did find the present tense telling of the story somewhat unusual-I cannot think of another story that I've read like it. But you have the characters absolutely right.

Like yourself, I think that Rapunzel's parents are excellent characters in the movie, in spite of the short time they are on the screen. They don't say any words we can hear, but their actions say a lot! The dialog and actions you give them seem just right, IMHO.

Another chapter, with Eugene and Pascal? Sounds like a good idea. It's likely that Eugene would have a nightmare or two, about Rapunzel actually healing him and leaving with Gothel, and some discussion with Rapunzel might cancel out the fears. I will be watching for it.

I really enjoyed this! I like the way to portrayed the King and Queen's characters since they really didn't have any speaking parts in the movie. I am really looking forward to the next part with Eugene and Pascal! )
