This is pretty good, all considered. The writing is competent, the plot clear, the characters believable.

Dumbledore is still a manipulative scumbag, despite this story’s presenting him as kind but ignorant. If he was ignorant, it was ignorance of his own making.

Snape is a jackass in this chapter. He has zero right to discipline Draco. First, he’s 12. He’s far beyond the age that corporal punishment is appropriate. Further, doing so was stupid. If anything, it would provoke Draco going to Lucius. As to proper ‘behavior’ or ‘parenting’, Snape needs to get his house in order.
