I loved all of it, Uhura was exceptionally well written - her everyday persona, her transformation, assuming her new role and the coming back to what she wanted to be, to what she felt she was. Also the relationship between Spock and her was very well done. I believe you achieved perfection on terms of balance.

But my favourite part was the conversation between Kirk and McCoy in the third chapter.

Kirk sighed and said, "You know, I sometimes think I hate Spock."
"Yup."
"God… Bones did you see her today?" Kirk almost groaned.
"Yup."
"It darn near singed my eyeballs just looking at her."

Woo! This was hot and sexy and kind of sad in a very specific way. Nyota has a part of herself that she keeps hidden away not because she's ashamed of it, but because she doesn't particularly like indulging it. Perfectly reasonable and private; when she's forced to bring it out (and parade along with it) in public and do things against her will it made me uncomfortable. Like a voyeur who hasn't asked for consent. Powerfully written, especially how you had her coming back to her preferred personality in degrees, which read as organic and realistic. Thank you so much for writing!

Great Story, I love that you show the McCoy/Uhura subtext, which is very different.
I don't agree about several reviewers saying the rating should change, there was no overt smuttiness.
That is the great way you wrote this because the hottness is all implied and very "visual"
