Sally chapter 1 . 11/3/2019
Good story, I am glad you had
Scotty stick up for Spock and take on McCoy!
mckydstarlight chapter 1 . 10/10/2018
Good! I was always angry at McCoy and Boma for how they treated Spock in that episode.
Heather Snow chapter 1 . 2/24/2018
Nice to see McCoy's eyes open partway. His refusal to admit he was wrong to Mr. Spock after he helped aggravate circumstances does grate on me. He's still not taking responsibility, but maybe that will be more likely to happen now when the Captain chews him out...
gemhornet chapter 1 . 12/12/2016
Great job on this one. I never liked this Star Trek episode, but I would have liked it better if they had included a scene like your story (and some court-martials scenes, too).
HeronS chapter 1 . 4/21/2016
What a very nice character exploration of Scotty! Thanks!
WeirdLittleStories chapter 1 . 10/8/2015
We almost never get to see things from Scotty's perspective in the series, but given that he's third in command and that he has strong opinions on most things, it was a terrible oversight of the show not to tell us more about who he is. Thanks for correcting this oversight and for giving us a fun little follow-up to the episode!
Guest chapter 1 . 1/25/2015
Excellent job of capturing Scotty and his way of interacting with others. I could just see and hear him sitting there talking to McCoy.
mtcbones chapter 1 . 2/14/2014
Nice one
The Buzz chapter 1 . 6/18/2013
This is wonderful! Well-written, perfectly in character, and full of things that needed to be said. It was also a perfect story to read right after re-watching the episode, and I appreciate Scott even more now. Thanks for sharing!

I think you managed to pick up something about this episode and turn it into a story which has been left on te floor by most writers. And you did it well )

It was a ... challenging episode to put it lightly. Which also provies a good contrast to later and previous events but that's not to be discused here.

I find it intersting how Scotty came to the conclusion that he has to talk with McCoy about these events and why.

While I am certain that the Doc privatly allready knew most of this, being told about it on top of that should provide additional awareness of it.

Also, I can't help but be amused about Scottys thoughts on the so very different 'relationships' Spock has to himself, Kirk and McCoy. How there is truth in it but as of yet no idea what will come to be.

As it should be.

So, once again I find that I like what you have written

Hi, or rather: Hallöchen! :) (since you *did* ask for German reviews. *g*)

Ich hab' zufällig, bei der Suche nach einer völlig anderen Geschichte, "All in a Day's Work" auf der Webseite "Ad Astra" gefunden, und da mir ehrlich gesagt der Stil der Seite nicht sonderlich gefällt, habe ich diese Geschichte gegoogelt und hier auf ffnet aufgestöbert. :)

Und "All in a Day's Work" liefert genau das, in Form von Scotty. Man muss Scotty einfach lieben!

Zusammengefasst: Tolle Geschichte, gut umgesetzt!

P.S. Put in a few mild colloquialisms into it. Hope that didn't make it harder to understand. :)

Two words: Thank You!

I always want to hug Scotty in this episode. Everyone else is just being a bunch of jerks, and not only does he not rag on Spock but he sticks up for him too, and that's something people in fanfiction tend to ignore I think when writing about this episode.

Great job! I really enjoyed it. :)
Lilith Luciferia chapter 1 . 9/18/2010
Lovely Scott-centric piece, and it is nice to see someone addressing this topic.

Though it is in part doubtless due to my particular fondness and loyalty to Spock, I have always been of the view that he tends to take quite a bit of undue blame. As seen in episodes such as "The Galileo Seven" and "The Paradise Syndrome", in which Spock is forced to take command under difficult conditions, he seems to be on the receiving end of some quite vehement criticism. However, my thoughts have always been that he is merely a victim of circumstance. Considering the events taking place at the time, it is simply an all-around bad situation-the proverbial "no-win scenario", in many ways. Spock is criticized constantly for his handling of these situations, when he is in truth really doing the only thing he *can* do, regardless of how erroneous it may seem to others at the time. Ultimately, his decisions do pay off where it counts, but he merely tends to get castigated for the inevitable and in truth comparatively minor ramifications. Furthermore, you make a very good point in that Spock's command choices are not all that different from Kirk's-while the styles are different, the decisions are not. Kirk and Spock act very much as foils to one another personality-wise, but when it comes right down to it, so to speak, in command decisions, they are both eminently practical creatures. The difference is that Kirk presents a far more sympathetic, emotionally-involved visage, while Spock makes no pretense to display any emotional involvement, rather presenting his actions as wholly logic-driven. However, ultimately, both men eventually make the same decisions, regardless of the means. Spock has the disadvantage in that he has never managed nor attempted to engender among his subordinates the love and hero-worship that Kirk has garnered with his constant displays of charisma, fondness, and compassion. He will make much the same difficult decision as Spock, but he will also show his sympathy and anguish at having to make such a choice, whereas Spock will do it stone-faced and efficient, causing him to come off as cold, apathetic and impersonal. Neither method is necessarily better, just as neither man is necessarily a better commander-Kirk merely has the advantage of popularity. He has had the chance to win the loyalty and trust of the crew over many months and years of various command situations. Spock, conversely, has never had this opportunity-of the relatively few times he has been put in absolute command, it has been in times of great tension and distress, causing Spock to become the target of criticism and disdain largely because he does not shy away from the "tough calls". It cannot be said that his actions are without some negative consequences, but this is not due to Spock making bad decisions-it is due to it being a bad situation, with inevitably unpleasant side effects that will come about one way or another regardless of what course of action is taken. Instead of receiving commendation and respect for his decisiveness, intrepidity, and the fact that his actions ultimately do "save the day" where it counts, Spock is condemned as an unfit, incompetent commander simply because he failed to pull off an impossible miracle and please everybody, trusting in his own logical judgment in the heat of a tough situation rather than catering to the emotionally-based wishes of the majority. Spock is, ultimately, not a bad commander at all, but a victim of circumstance-and yet in spite of that, still manages to pull the rest of them through. He really deserves much more credit than he gets, not to be the subject of ridicule.

Put quite simply to sum up that unnecessarily lengthy discourse, it is refreshing and nice to see someone defending the poor man. You showed good insight with this piece, wrote the characters perfectly, and made a point of giving truth and credit where truth and credit are due. As ever, excellent work.
J. ROOF chapter 1 . 9/17/2010
Nicely done. I always like to see stories written about Scotty and McCoy's friendship.
saya92 chapter 1 . 9/11/2010
Bravo! This is a beautifully written piece! I have always disliked how McCoy treated Spock in the TV series. How can a healer who is taught to be emphathic and cognizant of the difference between species be so insistent that Spock behave human? You would think Starfleet taught more about diversity in the trainings.

I really like how you portray Scotty. He is as much a major player in the series as the Big Three, and I love how his thoughts are explored here!

Thanks again for a great story. Please write more about Scotty and Spock!
