This is lovely. You've managed to catch the easy bravado of Xena and Ares perfectly, very in character and the writing was quickly paced yet even. I feel like, perhaps, it might have been good to include a bit more narrative in there (the bit with the Chinese mythology felt a bit jarring without it) but all in all this was a very good piece and I'm surprised by the lack of reviews. Nicely done, and it was good to read a happyish ending for them. :)

I'm not sure what I like more, the "seduction" that would have sounded corny has anyone else said it and seemed almost a little bit out of character, or the image of the soldiers discussing Ares' love life.

Despite being Chinese, I don't know much about chinese deities and mythology, so it was a treat to see chinese mythology incorporate into Xenaverse. I love the way you portrayed the Jade Rabbit. She was helplessly cute without being annoying.

Aww, that was so cute! Love Aphrodite's "Oh my gosh, your tail is so cute!" to the demon, and "Chang'e" turning out to be the White Rabbit ("uh, if you can translate that into rabbit"). And love this: "Okay, pointing out the dead wolf with leaking brains might have been a tactical error." LOL! Also, Ares imitating Xena's move and Xena pointing out she never stabbed through his skull. :D

I never read the original, but this is truly awesome. I love the way you write X/A banter (ROFL ""If you wanted to get me shirtless, all you had to do was ask"!), and Gabrielle too, especially her little rivalry with Ares ("Mine was better" - muahahaha!). Your narrative voice is great (love this bit: "Ares found himself grinning and struggled to control his facial muscles. It was a lost cause when he turned to Xena and saw her smile," and this: "Ares licked his lips carefully, and he directed a wide grin at Gabrielle, who was watching him like she'd just seen a dog that'd performed an interesting if appalling trick and was waiting to see if he'd do it again.").

I was apprehensive about reading this, since I absolutly LOVE the original... However, I was really surprised by this re-write. I loved how you kept the intimate interplay between Xena, Ares and Gabrielle and the balance of their relationships. It was all in character, but the changes were believable.

I shall enjoy reading it again (however, i will equally enjoy the original too!)

When I read the title I almost squee for real! This is one of my favourites stories Atrophy :) I'm so glad you took the time to rewrite it, thanks. Though I love the first version (specially the first bit and the conversation in the wood), the bickering and interactions in this one are even greater. Please, please finishing it, I want to see what you do with the rest of the story.

I think I have read the previous one you wrote and posted on adultfanfic, if I'm not wrong. Or maybe I'm just dreaming... If it's anything, I liked that one but I love where this is going. Update soon please!
