This story has a special place in my heart. There's something poignantly raw about this story. It's touching and sad. The only thing I wish you had added was Bones' reaction to round it out. Great story.

Overall, I enjoyed this story. I'll mimic what someone else said - I don't think I've ever seen another Tarsus survivor meet Kirk, which was unique.

A few things I felt confused by... I think you could have emphasized that the paper was a midterm or something a little better, to better explain why it was so important to complete (although I disagree with a previous reviewer... as a former military member myself, military schools are no joke - failing to turn in a single assignment COULD get you expelled easily, but the average person/reader doesn't know that).

Next, I think you ought to have named the teacher who assigned the paper, because I was genuinely confused... was it Spock? Sometimes it seemed like it was Spock, and other times it was clear that it wasn't Spock but actually a faceless, unnamed character. Totally threw me off.

Besides those two really minor things (even with them, really), loved t he story. :D You're a great writer - keep writing!
