And don't worry about what 'Mildur' reviewed, this doesn't look anything like rape to me. Merlin was trying to make it easier on the couple, but they had already agreed to have sex as they agreed to be married. What he did gave the a lifetime of loving each other, and while I think they should have been able to choose who they marry/love for themselves in that time period it just wasn't going to happen, they were going to spend their lives together, why not be happy about it?

As for Arthur, that was completely unintended, and apparently Arthur had wanted Merlin anyway. It was more like 'liquid courage' to push Arthur into revealing his feelings. The knights weren't supposed to drink it either, they were probably the closest to non-con but really those guys were like animals anyway, whos to say that the alcohol by itself would have them acting like that?

As far as I see it Merlin did nothing worst than spiking the punch on prom night. He shouldn't have but it was an accident and nothing so bad as rape. 'Mildur' is probably just extra sensitive do to her own triggers. I would hate to see a great story taken down for that, perhaps for people with triggers you could just put a small warning up.

I concur, and you are quite right. Rape jokes are not funny. I've considered deleting this fic on this website, and may still do so.

However, remember that during the Middle Ages (even in the highly fictionalized Middle Ages), consent had absolutely nothing to do with marriage. And in the legend of Tristan and Iseult, a love potion intended for Iseult and King Mark (who had never met) was a major factor in the tragedy that occurred.

Still, I believe your criticism is a fair one.

Really, I must protest against the premise of this fic. Have you even considered the implications of this story?

A woman is deathly afraid of having sex: let's drug her into compliance! Two youths are forced into a marriage with someone they neither know nor want, and the answer is to drug them into a life-long bond of love and carnal desire?

This is simply distasteful, not to mention disturbing.

Taking away even more of their free well in an already so abysmal situation is hardly the answer. Yes, Merlin - being a romantic at heart - thought they had potential and naturally would want them to fall in love, but he does have enough sense to let them do that on their own rather than brainwash them into it. As such he'd search for a way to allow that to happen before the wedding, not actively take away what little freedom they have. You really made him into the idiot Arthur claims to believe he is.

Artistic license and all that, I know, and some OOCness may be permitted in the name of humour, yes - but rape jokes? Aren't funny. Ever.
