Guest chapter 6 . 8/2/2014 Ok, so its been like 4 years since you updated, so I have little to no hope that you will update. But... PLEASE UPDATE! :D |
ThreeKittiesDancing chapter 6 . 7/22/2014 It's a real shame you never chose to finish your story. But truthfully, if you did, the concept of Ed suffering from a burst appendix needed some work. For one thing, a person CAN survive it, but they have to have an operation first, to remove the damaged part, and repair the remaining appendix. Then, the doctors would have to clean out the toxins, which being left untreated, would've turned into gangrene inside of poor Edward. Just changing out his blood wouldn't do it. I know, because my own Mother nearly died from having an untreated burst appendix back when I was a little girl. My Mother's appendix burst, and she went through so much pain, she screamed until she passed out. My aunt took her to the county hospital, as she didn't have private insurance. Because of that, the doctors didn't treat her very well, and couldn't seem to figure out what was wrong with her. She just laid in her hospital bed for nearly three weeks, until her appendix actually scabbed over, and she was able to get up and walk without too much pain. The hospital figured she was okay to go, and they released her. She was back at her job for only a week or so when her appendix burst again. She went through all the agony again, and she found herself languishing in the hospital again with the doctors only offering demeaning and insulting possible diagnoses. The second time, she wasn't getting better, she was getting weaker every day, and the hospital wasn't all that concerned. Mom forced herself out of bed, used her I.V. stand as a walker, and went in search of the 'dean' of the hospital, (whatever they're called). She had to demand they do an exploratory on her to find out what was wrong, and they finally gave in, provided she'd sign a waiver that they didn't think she was strong enough for surgery, so if anything happened to her, they weren't responsible. Mom had no support from home, as her Mother wouldn't drive the freeway to go see her before the surgery, and she'd told her if she died, her Mother was splitting up her kids and shipping them off to each of her siblings to raise, (this was right after our parents' divorce, so our Dad wasn't in the picture). When the doctors finally opened Mom up, that's when they finally learned she'd had her appendix burst twice, and she had gangrene everywhere. She was in surgery for more than eight hours, and they told her later they'd lost her for awhile, but they'd finally been able to revive her, and she managed to live through it. They'd had to give her a hysterectomy while they were operating, as she had so much gangrene in there. I know she had to receive transfusions too, obviously, but the main means of her being able to live through that was she had to have the surgery and the physical cleaning out of all the poison that had festered inside her for so long. When Mom finally woke after the surgery, she found herself in a private room with a private nurse to wait on her hand and foot. The hospital knew they had done wrong by her, so they tried their best afterward to get on her nice side. In your story, it seems awfully shortsided for Alphonse to just take the word of a doctor's apprentice that nothing can be done to save Edward, so basically they should just make him comfortable until he dies, They should've sought out other doctors, taken him to a hospital that would take him, so he could get an operation! I'd love to see you come back and finish this some day. Hopefully my Mother's story was able to give you a bit of inspiration? Sorry I went on for so long, but when I read that THAT was what was wrong with poor Edward, I just had to jump in, because of our family's experience with that particular horror. It doesn't matter if it's been four years since you updated, FMA fans would always welcome an incomplete story being updated! |
