Reviews for After Effects
Nerdyghost chapter 1 . 8/27/2019
looovee this! even though you've never played the games, this was so spot on! incredible!
MartyrFan chapter 1 . 2/21/2016
I've got to say, I really like this version of Jack and his family in the aftermath of Rapture. Anyone who lived through that would definitely have aversions to sea slugs, drugs, and the word 'Rapture'. Also, I can easily imagine Jack becoming religious after seeing what happens when a city dedicated only to man is built. I like your reference to BioShock 2. Eleanor would definitely seek out Jack, no matter if one or the other or both were good or evil.

BTW, I've never played the games themselves either. YouTube can be so handy when you don't want to go and directly buy a game. Nice work!
AlwaysForeverDreamer chapter 1 . 3/2/2014
I've read this four or five times now, I truly adore it.
Jet Set Radio Yoyo chapter 1 . 1/17/2014
I like the idea that friends of Jack might notice that he and the girls act sort of strangely sometimes. Also, it's kind of funny to think about, but you are right when you say that it's possible that some of his kids may very well be older then him. Jack was born in 1956, and the game takes place in 1960 so technically Jack is only four years old. Also, on a random note the Bioshock SpongeBob song lyric idea made me laugh. Anyway, I liked this I thought it was really good.
thelegendarysupernerd chapter 1 . 10/14/2013
Absolutely brilliant characterization.
tsukirabbit chapter 1 . 10/5/2013

97kingdomwolf chapter 1 . 8/13/2013
nice one shot
dullahan21 chapter 1 . 8/6/2013
For never having played the games, this was very well-written. I like the diary format from the point of view of the psychologist and the way he sees the Ryan family. I thought their reactions to the beach, the sea slugs, and Rapture were interesting. I agree, Jack probably would have been rather awkward when he returned to the surface.

I also love the way you depicted the relationship between Jack and his daughters. My favorite parts were when they first met O'Connell and Julie's birthday party. Jack was pretty awesome, too, when he rescued Tasha.

I laughed at the little song in the author's notes. Overall, great work with this fic. :)
Max Nerdage chapter 1 . 12/16/2012
This is wonderful!
ultra dragon chapter 1 . 7/8/2012
I feel like this is exactly how things would have happened after they got to the surface, too bad we can't read the rest of the "dairies".
Sergeant Daniel chapter 1 . 2/3/2012
This was a really good one-shot. Keep up the good work:D
Lastwell chapter 1 . 2/4/2011
Fantastic and unique story.
G-POW chapter 1 . 1/4/2011

Lift up your voice chapter 1 . 12/19/2010
Great story. I really enjoyed it.
Glass Prism chapter 1 . 8/26/2010
I really enjoyed this story. The journal format is very good and well-developed. I like how you made Jack's character (I've seen a few, usually ranging from cynical to sarcastic) as a generally nice guy, and as a father type. The girls, too are adorable.

The tidbits into their experiences at Rapture were well-integrated, especially the wrench and the attack on the kidnapper/rapist guy. My only wish is that you'd expanded a bit more on the Eleanor Lamb part, see more of Jack's reaction or gotten a hint of what they talked about and maybe some of her future.

Your little 'song-fic', by the way, is hilarious. And your question about again was debated a bit, I believe, on the Bioshock Wiki, but it's generally agreed that Jack was aged only during his youth, and that the hormones/whatever would have turned off in adulthood.

Really enjoyable fic, once again.
