I am finally, /finally/ reading your work, Azzie! And I'm so excited! Eeee. 'specially as this is one of your earlier pieces and I know you've only improved over the years ;)

This fits so well with my hc for Bellatrix's time in Azkaban, I love it. Bellatrix's initially not screaming, then waking one night and not being able to stop. Her guilt and distress over not being able to look for the Dark Lord. Her tendency for self-destruction. The thought of her drawing blood with her own teeth was eek, very disturbing. The idea of the human guards taunting and hitting her was awful but believable. And my faaav thing was her recounting everybody's name, especially starting on then skipping Andromeda's.

You’re really capturing Bellatrix‘character well. Her reactions to the situation in Azkaban as well as her view of herself make lots of sense. The part at the beginning about Bellatrix trying to stay silent but still waking up screaming one night which marks her descend into madness is very chilling and well-written.
The same goes for the self-injuring behaviour. I actually imagine her a bit like this too. Her obsession with her own blood and the need to find any victim if it is herself was very thoughtful as well.
Her thoughts about the Dark Lord not being able to come for her because she was supposed to be the one to find him was very good and fitting her situation as well.
You managed to keep the balance between describing Bellatrix’ madness and still writing her as a human being with feelings that are relatable in a way which isn’t the case in many Bellatrix-stories.

I don’t really understand why you felt the need to put the rape-scene in. I’m generally uncomfortable with the entire “rape as punishment”-idea in stories, especially if the responsible parties are supposed to be part of an organization with certain moral standards and no common culture of misogyny. There is no reason for the men to be present at all in this story, safe for committing the rape.
The scene isn’t badly written, far from it, it’s actually the best of this kind of scenes I’ve come across so far but the general abundance of them has made me almost wary of clicking on Bellatrix in Azkaban-stories, especially if I don’t know that the writer will handle the subject appropriately which you did. I have to admit that I don’t really understand why Bellatrix having been raped in Azkaban has almost turned into a fanon-truth. There are hardly any fanfic-writers who use non-gendered forms of abuse or have male Death Eaters come under human-induced suffering as well.

Oh, this was AWESOME! I love how you've captured Bella's weakness and strenght all in one story. It's disturbing and brilliant! Her madness and obsession shines through. She's gone through hell, yet she has a strength so few possess. Wonderfully and beautifully written. I truly enjoyed it. Thank you. :)

Ooh, this is lovely in a horrible sort of way. It has that taint of wrongness that surrounds Bellatrix, and it's disturbing, but at the same time there's parts that are human and almost understandable. Her strength is admirable and frightening. The little details like the wedding rings really work to reinforce her observance and her ability to continue to observe the real world instead of retreating into herself.

I can't believe you got so few reviews! This fic is incredible! You really manage to show what a terrible place Azkaban is. Although I think you should have rated it T instead of M. But that's just my opinion. :)
