Reviews for Wearing and Tearing
weirdmixofsodapopanddallas chapter 7 . 7/17
Holy fucking shit, this was amazing. I couldn't stop reading. It is literally 3:40 in the morning right now, and the only reason I'm currently awake is because I had to finish this. It's nice to read a really good fic again. Considering how happy and amazed I was with the quality of writing in this, I think I just spend too much time reading sub par stuff and telling myself it's good enough. But this is more than good enough. I really appreciated the nod to some of my favorite movies, like the Godfather and Back to the Future and Star Wars, and some of my favorite bands, like Zeppelin and AC\DC. It's nice when your favorite character likes the same movies and music as you do. This also introduced me to some new songs and bands to enjoy, so thank you. I think you really had a good grasp on the characters themselves, especially Dean. I've noticed that some people have a really hard time getting in his head, but I think you did it perfectly. The story was engaging and kept me guessing till the end, though I did feel super smart for figuring out Marissa was related to the doctor because you described their eyes the same. Either way, sorry for the novel, I tend to ramble at this time of night, and you probably won't read this anyway, considering how long it's been since you posted this, but if you do, I hope I managed to get across how much I appreciated and enjoyed this story.
Visage chapter 7 . 5/3
What an awesome journey you took us on! A fascinating plot, I was on the edge of my seat! Your action and suspense was perfect, but what I love most about fanfics are how we can explore relationships that we don't always get the time to do in the show. You did a beautiful job with John and Dean in this! Their voices were absolutely spot on. Your natural narrative voice lent itself so well to their story and it was a pleasure to read. Thank you so much for sharing this with us!
michael in the bathroom chapter 7 . 3/25
this is really well-written! Didn't expect to like it much since it barely has Sam in it (I'm biased towards Sam - Dean fics) but I loved this one!

Thanks for writing his story! It was so complex and I love how you explored Dean's relationship with his Dad. Throughout the whole story, I was really wishing for Sam to magically appear and give Dean the comfort he needed... But I think you made a great decision to not do that- falls into Canon more. And I can't realistically imagine John resolving things with Sammy at this point in their lives. I sped through this story because I couldn't wait to find out what happens next, so I think I'll have to go back and re-read to really understand the details (I'm quite sure I got a bit lost between who had an affair with who, etc. ) Looking forward to checking out your other stories!

I totally agree with you about how there has to be purpose in pain. I just finished supernatural and so I just got into reading SPN fanfiction. To be honest, I have been quite disappointed- to be fair, there are a handful of good one shots, but those are rare. Most of the stories I read seem to be lacking something. So I was so pleased to stumble upon your stories! You tell a complete story- the pain, the hope, the comfort and the healing. I love how much attention you put in the interactions between the characters and that you include their inner thoughts as well.

Guest chapter 7 . 8/12/2018
Don't know if you still reads reviews after ten years of posting this, so here goes nothing...
I am really impressed by the way you brought the characters to life! Somehow you maneged to give them dimensions and they weren't fictional, at least to me, anymore!
I love the details and the complexity of this story and I think you are an amazing writer to be able to create such a plot, in fact, all your works are beautiful and I am living for them!
Thank you for spending the time and the effort to give us this fiction and I hope you keep on writing more and more in the future :)
Pedellea chapter 7 . 2/3/2018
I confess that I blew threw this story in my first read, but then decided on the second read to absorb every word, which took just over a month’s worth of lunch and coffee breaks, bedtimes, and the occasional elevator ride. It’s breathtakingly structured and lovingly written. It’s incredible how you wove in a monster/vengeful spirit hunt with this deep journey of character development for both John and Dean sans Sam. Taking this particular father-son bent was very brave of you - I’m glad you got the itch to do this because I love this underexplored dynamic. I really liked how you took on both of their perspectives in alternating fashion. It really shows how much you put yourself into understanding each of them, and how John and Dean shaped each other. The side characters were also developed with depth. You brought to life a whole town! The only concrit I have is that some expressions were slightly heavy-handed and word or repetitive, but this did not detract from the overall story.

I feel this is one of the best and most in-depth works I’ve read in the fanfic world. Was it worth my time? Absolutely. I know this was written quite a number of years ago. I hope since that time you’ve been able to go places in the real writing world. You have a real gift. Keep writing!

Read this again for the 50th time, I guess ... STILL love it and think it's one of the best Dean/John stories out there. Thanks again for such an inventive, creative story.
aapenname chapter 7 . 4/15/2017
This was really good. I don't think I've ever read a fic that focused not only on the years Dean and John hunted without Sam, but also focused on how John and Dean's relationship worked rather than solely on how incomplete Dean felt without Sam. This was a really good case and I loved your characterization of both Sam and Dean. I could imagine this as an episode. Great work! Thanks for sharing!

"You made this our war... but you never asked us if we wanted to fight it."

Uff... Kick me square in the feels, why don't you? I didn't need my heart any way.

That was such a good story. Kept me going till the end. Thank you
NoilyPrat chapter 7 . 5/2/2016
Nice wrap-up - liked it from Dean's POV, so get some info, and space out. Didn't want Kwaiya to be guilty either - like Dean. But I like John's answer - he was innocent. He didn't know what his mom had planned.
Loved the scene at the end, where Dean is teaching Aaron. Interesting the range of things he was teaching him - music, car waxing, food, field stripping a gun. And yeah, the feeling of "Do you have to go?" right there, always. But of course they do, dang it. And so we have to say goodbye once more to our favorite guys. (missing Sam, of course)
Wonderful trek. Glad I finally could figure out - following you - who was doing what, and I like all your good guys in the hospital room pow wow session. John better have told Anne Rice (LOL!) what was going on, and glad they all understood (sheriff with some help) the nature of what happened.
Love your stories!
