Reviews for A Rose Among the Briars
RealityReflected chapter 40 . 6/8
Oh, I loved this. I wasn't expecting as good a story as I got, but this is one of my favorites ever. I'm both sad it is over and see this as a good stopping place.
The Moonlily chapter 11 . 4/3
I have enjoyed this story immensely so far, and I believe I shall continue to do so! Your story-weaving is a pleasure to follow, your dialogue is engaging and the characters, especially Boromir and Faramir, are true to the original. You outline the difference between two brothers very well. Rhoswen is a delightful character as well, which is more than I usually can say of original characters in such a position. I look forward to how the rest of the story unfolds!
Etta Daring chapter 1 . 3/29
Yoooo I like this already. Poor Faramir :(. He really deserves the best in life.
ksecc1 chapter 29 . 2/28
I do enjoy reading Rhoswen. There aren’t many stories with truly strong female characters. She is very strong, and she lives within her times. I dislike reading about some modern girl who appears and spits on all the social mores of the background characters. Being disrespectful of other people and arrogantly assuming you can impose your beliefs is not a powerful character. I think a strong woman treats other people with dignity, like Rhoswen. She takes a culture which could lock her up like a doll in a display stand, and she becomes strong within that framework.

Thanks for this lovely story. I always thought Boromir deserved happiness, and I'm glad he has found it in your story.

This is one of my favorite fanfictions of all time. It is so beautifully, and artfully written. I legitimately haven't watched netflix all week because I have been glued to this story. Thank you for your commitment throughout the years to finishing this lovely tale.
Guest chapter 40 . 5/29/2019
I don't really know what to say, and are you even paying any attention to reviews on this page, but one big fat thank you from here. Your story is not only very well written and interesting, but also helped me pull through some really bad few weeks. Not sure I would've managed it without this little piece of comfort away from the world, and role model that is Rhos. Thank you so much, I don't know what else to say or how to express my gratitude for all you have done for me simply by writing this story.
Guest chapter 40 . 3/4/2019
Very enjoyable and beautifully written. Thank you for giving us more Boromir and more of the story after the original.
Doria Nell chapter 40 . 2/23/2019
I've been planning on leaving a review for weeks, but for some reason I didn't manage until now. I stumbled upon your story by accident, started reading it out of curiosity, and stayed with it because it was wonderful! Even though I never thought I would like an AU where Boromir lives, I fell in love with it. I was reading it on my phone for days at the time and I loved seeing how both your style and your main character developed and matured. Rhoswen is amazing, she grew up and changed so much, and I am grateful you never abandoned the story because your progress is clearly visible in your character arch and your writing style.
Thank you for this gem of a story! I thoroughly enjoyed reading it!

CuppaTea13 chapter 40 . 3/30/2018
Wow. I began reading this about three days ago no. I read it in snatches on my phone whenever I had a spare moment. Whenever I was on hold, waiting for the teapot to boil, paused to eat breakfast, and before I went to bed, I read this. Every spare moment k picked it back up and it was everything I had hoped it would be when I first clicked on the link and so much more. Watching these characters grow, change, reading more about characters Tolkien mentioned but never really fleshed out, seeing new nuances in the story I have ready many times now, it was so amazing. But watching Rhoswyn. Watching as she grew, as she struggled, as she mourned, as she picked herself back up time and time again- that was breathtaking. I started this story because I was looking for a Boromir x OC. I completely stayed for Rhoswyn. She and Boromir falling in love and struggling and finally coming together was beautiful, but I think even if Boromir had died, or if Rhoswyn never even met Boromir, I think I still would've been as enthralled with her story as I was. I will definitely be checking out some of your other stories now. You've written an amazingly strong character here, and you did it without equating strength of arms, or violence, with being strong. It was beautiful. Thank you for writing this story and putting it out into the world for us to read and enjoy and fall in love with.
