DPDbookworm chapter 8 . 5/1 This story was a delightful surprise. So your Rodney did have *somebody* to give him support and affection as a kid. My foolish habit of not commenting til the end inevitably means I sometimes forget things I wanted to mention, but I really thought you did well with his aversion/longing re. touch/closeness. And the idea that he deliberately did the canonical bomb project to draw attention as *protection* is brilliant — it makes so much sense! |
The Dancing Bard chapter 8 . 11/3/2011 My favorite OCs ever. This is perfection that may have gotten me in trouble for reading at work. Just couldn't stop after lunch break. Amazing characterization. Love intelligent, perceptive manipulative young Rodney. Heartbreaking and funny. Will now proceed to read pretty much everything you've ever written on . |
Choas Babe chapter 8 . 3/16/2011 I think I'd like to see a story in this 'verse where the Team meets Bobby and Dave. I'm not sure if they'd clash horribly, leaving Rodney in the middle of a viscous territorial tug of war, or get along famously, leaving Rodney in the middle of a territorial tug of war while both sides tease him mercilessly. |
SGA fan chapter 8 . 12/5/2010 I've enjoyed the whole series, but this story is my favorite. I love your OCs and the entire atmosphere of this story. It's perfect. The only thing that could make it more perfect is if Rodney came back and introduced his Atlantis family to his chosen Earth family. :) |
EbonyWing chapter 8 . 11/15/2010 Wow... I normally don't like pre-Atlantis stories, let alone OC's but you completely drew me in and I found myself falling in love with Bobby and Dave. The way they care about Rodney, just aw! Loved the action and the big reveal. Once again, you kept it believable and in character for Rodney. Major kudos! :) Seriously loved this story-great AU! I'm so looking forward to the next installment! _ |
Whirlwind421 chapter 8 . 10/1/2010 Awesome! That was really sweet! I loved all the perspectives! |
swabloo chapter 8 . 9/17/2010 oh man, I absolutely LOVE mutant!Rodney. And it's fantastic to read a great idea written well. You probably don't want to hear this, but as soon as you started calling his uncle 'Bobby' it all clicked 'Supernatural' in my mind and I was all, oh man, that would make a great little side story. What with him being smart and not telling Rodney about his smarts... and the fact that he's half fish really depends on a suspension of disbelief, so it could all so easily be cleared up with a little bi tof magic here and there. Not that I watch Supernatural, but it's always fun to include minor characters in crossovers ;) |
michelel72 chapter 8 . 9/6/2010 What a great addition to the 'verse! I adored Bobby and Dave, and Rodney's plan was in fact genius. |
Azamiko chapter 8 . 7/20/2010 *cheers* I'd like to see what happens to Bobby and Dave later...I guess they die before the show starts? |
Calamitynexus chapter 8 . 8/21/2009 Clever! I loved how you took Rodney's Canon story and made it fit. This was good. There were a few moment where I had tears in my eyes. i really liked this story. Two thumb way up. |
Kevsam chapter 8 . 7/30/2009 Okay, I just found this story today and in just a few hours have read Treading Waters and now this one. Wonderful stories, with just the right amount of humor in it to still be a serious story. I was intrigued by the thought of a fish-Rodney (lol) and now i've fallen in love with your Dave and Bobby. I'm about to read the next installment. But i do have so say that I would love to see more of Dave and Bobby, especially based in present time with AtlantisFish-Rodney. |
Jinxauthor Mel chapter 8 . 4/30/2009 "Still Waters" Thank you so much for continuing this universe! I enjoyed this and the following stories a great deal. There's some discrepancy to the first one I'd like to point out and also a few questions I'd like to ask. In 'Treading Water' you established that Rodney was brought in for examination at age five because his mother got scared due to complications with Jeannie's birth. If his sister were seven during the events of 'Still Waters', Rodney would be twelve, and while that would work with him stating (in 'Treading Water') that his father had strange people 'treat' him after an illness at that age, *this* story here really works better with Rodney being only ten. Therefore, may I suggest his claim in 'Treading Water' to have been separated from his father for a month at age ten (instead of twelve), and have Jeannie be only five in 'Still Waters'? (Because otherwise Rodney would have been only three at the first revelation and with that certainly too young to remember it.) I'm not sure if five-year-old kids get send to summer camp in Canada, though ... but I suppose their parents would find some way to get rid of the kid. I'm also curious what favor Rodney's parents ever did Robert at all, except for letting him escape from their bigoted vicinity ... In chapter five was a scene I kept wondering about and I just have to ask: Being raised Canadian and currently residing with two people also Canadian permanently living in Ontario, Canada; why ever would Rodney feel it necessary to convert the clean and simple (read 'even' and 'straightforward') metric number of hectares into the uneven and complicated American system of acres (which no people but Americans understand anyway)? Just to show off his math skills? At the end there, Rodney kept mentioning the FBI over the phone, but I think in 'Underground' he stated he'd been interrogated by the CIA - the other never mentioned - and that would probably be the more noteworthy agency even if both had been involved in the investigation, right? Anyway, I'm glad somebody finally thought of an appropriately brilliant reason for building an A-bomb and entering it into a school science fair. Overall, this was not quite what I expected since the plot reached far back instead of continuing from 'Treading Water', but ten-year-old Rodney was so great and the slowly developing relationships so engaging that I love the story anyway, if differently than the first installment! Now, in 'Treading Water' somewhere it was mentioned that Rodney hadn't 'wanted to' use his gills for twenty-five years (which would have been when he was twelve) but *did* last use them twelve years ago (when he would have been twenty-five years old). Since he had never known a good and 'free' experience underwater to age ten, under what kind of circumstances would he later have felt 'free' and 'safe' using them? I'd like to think that maybe his uncles influenced him in such a way that during a summer there (or two) he might have enjoyed being underwater, but then what happened at age twelve to make him stop? Like maybe he wasn't allowed to visit them anymore, or lost the chance due to his studies, or something? Will there be more stories about Rodney's time with his uncles? I'd like that a lot. . |
SandraS chapter 8 . 2/25/2009 That was ... intense. And very, very well written. Seriously. |
Leesa Perrie chapter 8 . 2/17/2009 Oh, wow! This was brilliant and so well written! I had tears in my eyes for much of the story, though there was some nice touches of humour too (taking apart all of Bobby's electrical items, snerk!). The ending was great and ties in the 'bomb incident' from canon perfectly! I'm so glad Rodney found people who accepted him, let's hope it helps him on Atlantis now that his secret is out! Looking forward to reading the next story. I'm waiting until it's complete as I find reading something this good in installments takes away from the intensity of the feelings it garners in me, and also that I'm far, far too impatient a person when I start reading something, waiting is like torture to me! As soon as it's complete, you can be sure I'll be reading it as soon as I can! I love your stories, you do Rodney-ansgt so well! |
hellomynameisidontknow chapter 8 . 2/17/2009 Yay! I loved this ending. I was perfect! :) |
