Reviews for Dinner and a Movie
Guest chapter 1 . 7/8
Too bad adult Sam does the exact opposite.
werewolfsfan chapter 1 . 7/18/2014
Sooooooooo good!
kateanddin chapter 1 . 4/11/2013
Happy to read I'm not the only one who had been terrified by that movie. My brother made me watch it when I was about 5 and I was scared to death for a very long time! Couldn't even watch it until I was 20 and then I realized how bad it was lol. If I think childhood terrors, Gremlins come first position
mousefiction chapter 1 . 12/31/2009
Cute!
PlatinumRoseLady chapter 1 . 3/16/2009
This was beyond the Valley of the Darling!

So very sweet! Spot on characterizations, and thanks for making John an actual Dad.

Bravo!
bhoney chapter 1 . 2/2/2009
I LOVED this little detail and the picture it created: "in the bedroom, between the beds the spreads were draped to form a wobbly Saturday fort in which they’d spent the morning pretending to be pirates on the open seas". So sweet to see how they interact together when it's just the two of them, being kids.

Loved little Sammy's vulnerability here: “If I get scared...can I? Can I... still... you know... crawl in?” he asked.

And I loved Dean's reaction to it too.

Also loved this image: "his little brother curled snugly to his ribcage under his arm on the left". Aw...loved the image of Sammy sitting there, asking Dean what was going on, not watching himself, but wanting to know. LOL So cute and sweet and age-appropriate. And the movie is gremlins! LOL I was wracking my brain, trying to figure out what scary movie had a "teddy bear" in it. LOL I loved that movie as a kid!

Totally adored this: "Finally with his arm wrapped securely around Sam, with someone to be brave for, he led the way into the dark." That was SO perfect. Loved that Dean was a little scared himself. But that's a perfect "older sibling" moment.

Great description here: "swirling and kinda excited but just a little sick feeling in his tummy". You captured the feeling perfectly.

This struck me as sweet, Sam's not sure, but willing to trust his brother: “It’s Giz to the rescue Sammy you don’t wanna miss it!” “I don’t?” Great job capturing the way kids really talk.

This too, great kid-speak: “Might be here a’ready.” Sam nodded but frowned at the same time.

Loved how Dean used kid-logic to reassure Sam, by pointing out that it was Christmas time in the movie. Loved that Sam got comfort from clutching Dean's pillow. Loved that Dean felt he could talk to his dad, and that John took him seriously and didn't just yell at him for letting Sam see the movie, but tried to help him come up with ideas for how to help Sam not be scared. Sam's certainty that Stripe was gonna come for them was so endearing.

I also really love your portrayal of John, as a loving and concerned-if flawed and often distracted-father. I think that's exactly right, and it's how I try to portray him too.

This made me giggle: "...now he’s scared, like almost CLOWN scared”. *snort* Ah, yes, Sam and clowns. LOL

Liked Dean's logic on why he let Sam finish the movie-so he could see the bad guys lose. That rang very true to me, as far as kid-logic goes.

And this was both sweet and sad: "Everything from bath time to how quickly his diaper got changed to what baby food he was fed at what time of day, his first born was adamant about. It never dawned on John that Dean was doing his best to care for Sam in exactly the same way he’d been watching Mary do it since they brought the baby home from the hospital." *sniffle*

This was perfect, just the kind of thing John would notice at a moment like this: "He’s a natural, John noticed the ‘cross’ type motions, or they’ve been spending too much time with Jim". LOL

John's idea of letting Sam think he'd gotten rid of Stripe was just brilliant!

And this: "He rested threw his arm over his big brother’s chest and as his eyes slid easily closed sighed, 'I pr’tect you.' Dean smiled, gave a pet and a pat to his baby and sighed contentedly giving him over to sleep, knowing he was in just the right hands" was perfect. A huge AW moment, and also had me tearing up a little. LOVED Sam protecting his big brother, loved Dean thinking of Sam as "his baby". Lovely image. *sniffle* Also loved John and Dean letting Sam think he'd saved the day. Very, very sweet.

Lots of great little details in here, with the pillowcases, and John making dinner, that really made this feel real.

I cannot say enough how much I ADORED this fic. It's one of my favorites, ever. I'm favoriting it, of course, but wish I could say strongly enough how very much I loved it. Please, do more wee!Chesters! *insert Sam's puppy eyes*
laineyau chapter 1 . 11/21/2008
that was a wonderful little story. I really enjoyed that. Thank you.
Nvrmore chapter 1 . 11/8/2008
Huh, they updated their system... Anyway...

Hee hee hee. Gizmo. :D The first movie was definitely scarier than the second.

Aww. Dean's scared, too. :D

Dean's logic was cute - about it being snowy and Christmas and thus, they were very far away.

Ha ha ha ha. John has his moments of brilliant parenting. :) Love how you tied that up - empowering Sammy. Letting him take care of the problem.

That was cute. Nicely done.
cavetrollgrl chapter 1 . 11/7/2008
Very cute. Very sneaky way to let Sam take care of Stripe but sweet to have John solve the problem that way.
sylia91 chapter 1 . 11/5/2008
OMG, so cute. I loved John being able to be there for his boys this time and that he got some gratitude for his hunting. Sammy protecting Dean at the end just warmed my heart. Loved this!
Nana56 chapter 1 . 11/5/2008
Aw! That was so sweet! I just loved it and letting Sammy kill Stripe with the salt was absolutely perfect! Then Sammy wants to sleep with Dean to protect him. Awesome little fic, my awesome friend!

When we first saw that movie, my kids chattered for hours about it. I think they were trying to work through it in their own minds. ;D Good choice for the movie.
TraSan chapter 1 . 11/5/2008
Such a cute little oneshot.

My husband was watching Predator one night, thinking our two year old son was asleep. During one of the commercials he realized his mistake when Caleb asked his daddy if the ugly man could get in. :)

So, little Sammy half watching the show snuggled up with Dean on the couch was very easy to visualize and I know full well the kind of inadvertent trauma that can cause!

Dean was so great with his little bro - and braving John's disapproval to get his Dad's advice.

LOVED how Sammy (and John) got rid of the gremlin and then Sammy slept with Dean to protect him.

Very aw inducing wee!schmoop.
sunnyjunedays chapter 1 . 11/5/2008
Hi, You had me smiling in a nice warm and fuzzy way with this story. Sammy pleading with Dean to be able to watch the movie, bargaining with his brother that he would wash the dishes for a week. Dean smilingly thinking Sammy wouldn't be able to reach the sink.

You had me a little worried about Sammy's fear and how John would react when he found out why he had it but you made it all good. John was a 'real' dad, he helped little Sammy 'save' them from the gremlins, that was ingenius, and he didn't give Dean a hard time over it.

This was a lovely story to read after the hard day i've just had at work. x
CatBeist chapter 1 . 11/5/2008
I know this is just the beginning of this story, I know that you already read me the beginning and yet I can not help but smiling and going AW the little Wee's... there is nothing more adorable then these two and you know what, they ain't Kripke's creation, they are yours. All yours.

The little one squealed, his face twisted in four year old fear as he threw off the cover, leaped from the couch and pumped his legs faster than he ever had before until he smashed head first into his big brother.

Aw and hahahahaahaha I can just picture weesammy running :D

Aw Sammytears... aw

Pomiff... lol... too cute

the mask that would eventually hide the real boy safely from the rest of the world not sitting quite right just yet,

I really liked that sentence... good pick sifi!

It isn't the first nor the last but, aw poor Sammy, so scared.

Aw... I feel bad for Dean. You know your daddy loves you, Sammy is still just a baby, he is THE baby, and you had to grow up so fast :(

aw *sniff* Dean feel like he did something bad... I am glad you made tis into a good moment though, I mean we know John was a good dad though he had some bad days, but Dean is so damned responsible for everything or well that is what he feels.

Lol scrubbing veggies with soap... ew

*sniff* see John was a good man... and he can thank the boys for that. Without the boys John would probably have been reckless and careless and everything cus he wouldn't have anything to come home to, nothing to protect...

And I am just loving the cooking scene... a little math, some father son time, and Dean "commanding" how long it should cook. Good job little man!

Aw

DADDY

SALT

ROFL!

Dude this was PERFECT! Every little bit of this was pure perfection, and yeah I did have to wait for over a year for this but man was it worth it! This has got to be one of the best and cutest little things inn the world! And how proud Sammy was, and now he can protect Dean from badies and he can be a 'big boy' now huh :D

I love everything you did with this, that you wasn't 100% funny but 90% funny and then 10% with just a little angst from John, a little from Dean where as yeah, all the monsters won't be just as easy to get rid of, and how John can't get as many Father/Son's moments with his boys, and it is sad that it all worked out better when he saw how he could look at the boys as troops inn a way. It was what he knew and I don't blame him, it worked out ok for them all, kinda... still... :D

Inn the end this was perfect and the best of the year and a lot of AW

and a little *sninff sniff*

and a few ROFL's and LOL's

And once again sweetie, PERFECT!
sammygirl1963 chapter 1 . 11/5/2008
I loved it! What a perfect first hunt for Sammy! That was some smart thinking on John's part to use the remote making Sammy think that he sent Stripe away using the salt-couldn't have worked out better!
