This was a very intriguing story. I liked the viewpoint of the nurses; just snapshots of strangers visiting their patient. It gave each character a description we wouldn't normally get of them, the nurses not knowing the dynamics of the team and how all these people related to their patient.

I liked the air of anticipation, how the nurses knew there was something missing and were waiting for it... all realising pretty quickly who that something was when he arrived.

An interesting perspective and well done.

Oh I really liked this! I love how you didn't name everyone but yet it was quite easy to figure them out. I thin you have all of their characters pegged quite well, too. My only complaint is that when Tony says that it's all his fault, I think the first thing Gibbs would have done is beckon Tony closer and then Gibbs-slapped him before telling him it wasn't his fault. I'm thinking of "Frame Up" here where Gibbs Gibb-slaps him and then lifts his chin. I think he'd say what you wrote, but that he'd preface it with a Gibbs-slap. It's what Gibbs does :)
