Reviews for A Fflam is…
crankyman7 chapter 1 . 12/16/2013
You nailed him, m'dear, you nailed him. I just read Fflewddur Fflam, and I don't want anyone telling me otherwise.
FullMentalPanic chapter 1 . 10/18/2011
Quite a fun read, you did an excellent job with the bard and although he acknowledges his situation is grim he still has the irrepressible upbeat attitude that comes across very well. Like how he enjoys his stale bread. "A Fflam was forgiving, but that beating had been quite unnecessary, he was sure." Very funny and I really loved all the "A Fflam is..." lines, they were very in keeping with the original story. "A Fflam is valiant, but discretion is the better part of valor." Lots of smiles for that last line. Very enjoyable fic _.

Awesome job! I love Fflewddur, and you did a fantastic job capturing his character! This was so much fun to read! :)
SillyFairyGirl chapter 1 . 2/25/2010
A very creative imagination you have! It was fun to read :-)
Isobel Kelte chapter 1 . 5/19/2009
I just finished reading the Book of Three for the first time and was delighted to find this fic. Fflewdder is by far my favorite character and you captured him quite well.
Digiboy-Stew chapter 1 . 6/27/2008
A fun and whimsical account of a segment overlapping with the books. I love how you had the bard embellish his facts like he always did in the series. Great stuff.
Allen Skylark chapter 1 . 6/20/2008
Haha, that last line was a great finishing touch. I love that he had his harp separated from him, adding to the torment that's confinement. I also like that he thought his harp has ears, considering everytime he 'colors" the facts, it knows LOL. This was a fun speculation on how things might have gone about while we were with Taran. Nice job!
sorrowsown chapter 1 . 6/17/2008
this was fun. it's great to see what fflewddur might have thought in that dungeon. keep up the great work _
Goonlalagoon chapter 1 . 5/18/2008
Love it.

Wouldn't he be more worried about what was going to happen to him next?
CompanionWanderer chapter 1 . 3/11/2008
I guess I'm still allowed to review even after beta-ing?

Basically just to agree with the others! A great start, a really nice capturing of Fflewddur's personality, and a good raising of questions to be answered later in the fic. A45 has given you some good points to muse on. I look forward to more!
adaon45 chapter 1 . 3/1/2008
What fun! We've always wondered how Fflewddur ended up in that dungeon, haven't we? I wonder that alarm bells did not go off sooner; after all, Spiral Castle can't have looked a very inviting place.

As PrydainViolet has said, you capture Fflewddur's "hapless loveableness" very well indeed.

A few thoughts:

1) Would Fflewddur have been more frightened, or at least apprehensive, of his fate? Achren doesn't seem the forgiving type.

2) I agree it would make sense for his captors to take away his harp, but would Eilonwy have been able to get it along with Melyngar afterwards? I mean, she rescues Gwydion's stuff (not knowing they're Gwydion's, true); how would she have ended up with Fflewddur's harp?

3) What about Fflewddur's playing, anyway? He seems to play very well (with that particular harp, at least). Why would Achren have found his music offensive? Is it really the case she simply "has no ear for music"?

I greatly look forward to more!
PrydainViolet chapter 1 . 3/1/2008
How fun!

I had never thought of the problem of "improving the truth" in his actual songs, so clever. You do a great job of capturing Fflewdur's lovable haplessness. Well done :)
