Reviews for Repercussions
Gaspode chapter 34 . 3/2/2010
As you yourself said, Bishop and happy endings is a hard mix, but I feel you’ve succeeded very well indeed. In fact, you’ve succeeded in making all his twisted logic seem, well, logical. Killing Chantal to sever the ‘ties’ that keeps him trapped, helping her and Casavir (the back story you’ve given Bishop serves its purpose well there) to protect her and his decision to not fight during the trial by combat.

Finding a plausible reason for Bishop to redeem himself, if ever so slightly, often seem to be the down fall of the Bishop stories. His anger and bitterness are so deeply ingrained in him that any story would either have to give him an awful lot of time or a really cataclysmic event to make it work. Your solution works really well. You simply let him kill her and it makes him realise that this was not the solution to his problems.

I really enjoy your description of his attempt at self destruction by booze and suicide by Paladin. Also you’ve captured the way he fights to the very end against the fact that he loves Chantal and actually needs her, really well. Now that’s what I call an internal struggle.

The ending is good. The fact that you hint at that he will probably do a runner on a regular basis, not being able to quite accept being tied down by his need of Chantal, makes it more believable. Personally I might have emphasized that a bit further, by making him still torn between anger and acceptance as he realises she’s basically tricked him into revealing his true emotions. But that’s just me.

As with your other lovely stories the angst is a tad too strong for me and there is a few clichés that seem unnecessary, “swept her off her feet and made her knees weak”, is one example. But also, like before, it’s tempered by nice glimpses of humour; “Stop it, fool! Distance, remember? There's no bloody space! Not that kind of distance!”. Wonderful. The love story between Bishop and Sarah is perhaps a bit too sugar coated for my liking although I like the idea as such.

As before my complaints really are to do with personal preferences (except the occasional heavy handed use of aforementioned clichés). Either way, I really enjoyed the story.

"Made you laugh, really."

Wow.

That line left an impact. A gruesome, heart-wrenching chapter, ending like that? Shows you just how much he's been twisted up inside.

Wonderfully done.

This is so spot-on! I loved the ending - it was so true to how Bishop was in the game.

I think this has probably been my absolute favorite Bishop story. I love what you did with the characters and how they developed. It takes talent to evolve a character without losing the essence of who they are. Thanks so much for such a wonderful read!

I believe I'm off to read some of your other stories ...

Perfect.

As usual, a great tale!

Characterization is dead on. Interesting take on Bishop's past. The surprising union of Cas and Neeshka worked somehow, which surprised me. You really pulled it off which is fantastic. Your pacing is also dead on. You really have a good feel for moving a story along solidly. I never got bored!

Somehow, you managed to keep Bishop a strong character even while showing him falling in love. That is a hard line to walk but you did it very well.

My nit picks are simply that. The writing is so good everywhere else that the cliches jump out with more force than usual. Must the fire *always* be "crackling merrily" for example?

The other nit pick is that sometimes the internal struggle seems a bit heavy handed. I understand that this is romantic fiction, but you do such a good job of giving us the KCs ambivalence about her feelings for Bishop through voice alone that the added bits of "then why did she feel a tingle every time he looked at her?" seemed a bit redundant to me.

Looking forward to seeing more of your yummy fiction! Keep it coming!

I loved this story very, very much. Any story that can makes me litterally shake with anticipation becomes one of my favorites. Thank you, Fuxfell, for a very enjoyable journey. I hope to see more from you in the near future.
Brielle the Dragonslayer chapter 34 . 6/5/2008
What a believable way to end the story and have Bishop finally realize and accept his feelings for Chantal at least for now I guess.

I still have a million questions about their future together and would love reading it, but you are a better judge than I of when to let a story go. Whether I know more or not, I'm satisfied and I definitely enjoyed sharing the journey with your characters and you the weaver of their destinies.

I find myself wondering what circumstances will arise to allow Bishop to open himself up enough to relive the horror of his tragic first love and share that with Chantal. Also, having a child would be another "liability" as to having another means of others hurting him through those he cares for. Will Duncan concede in time? Will Casavir be able to truly accept this? What will happen with Cas and Neeshka's relationship? Oh, I just don't want to let them go. That's what you get for writing a most well done, intriguing, and just won't let you go story. Loved it!

Thanks for the explanation at the end. I did not realize that both could survive and that Nasher and Neverwinter would accept it as the will of the gods. I was actually waiting for Nasher to be angry with her and thinking justice had not been served. Your story worked though and I loved it. Keep on writing!

WONDERFUL! FANTASTIC! ...it's OVER? Aw, man...I still want more! Maybe an epilogue for closure. Hmm? Huh, maybe? Well, if not, this was a fantastic read! I checked for updates everyday! Do another one!

It had to be a rough ending, after all, feral children have trouble. I especially like your postscript, though he surrendered too, so I guess the trail was a mistrial?
AlorieBlue chapter 34 . 6/4/2008
It is a very satisfying ending. The ending scene was very cinematic, easy to visualize, I mean. And I'm glad you chose not to end it with him killing her, because I just don't think that would have left a feeling of closure at all. I support bad endings when they fit, but I don't think I would've liked that here. No, I'm pleased that you did what you did with it.

The only thing I might like to see, if you felt like doing it, would be an epilogue, not with Chantal and Bishop, because I think it's best letting them go at this point, but with Casavir and Neeshka. I think that would be really great to see. No pressure or anything!

But either way, great story. You did a wonderful job.
LostinBremen chapter 34 . 6/4/2008
Great story - fantastic ending. Just as it should be. Can't be too sloppy when it comes to Bishop ;)In my opinion you hit the right note. Well done :)
