Guest chapter 1 . 3/24/2018 Excellently done. |
le doux frisson chapter 1 . 12/29/2013 Oh this is so, so nice. So typically funny and yet so real at the same time. I mean, most stories have George grieving over Fred like mad, and yes it's awful but he's dead. Period. George has to get on with his life, he does, as Rowling provided. Doing this, giving it such a realistic, natural feel isn't common among the fanfics, so thank you for sharing such a nice and rare piece. Hoping to read more from you! |
CookieMonstAri chapter 1 . 7/11/2012 *Cries* Such a good story |
owlinacloak chapter 1 . 7/13/2011 This was AMAZING ! I absolutely loved it ! So funny ! I really don't like a sad George. There is a mistake, tough. George's middle name is Fabian. It's George Fabian Weasley. Fred's is Frederick Gideon Weasley. Their middle names are after their uncles, and Molly's brothers, Fabian and Gideon Prewett. Molly didn't want to keep the twins' names the same as their uncles so she kept them with the same initials. Ignatius is actually Percy's middle name. He was actually Molly's paternal uncle who, by the way, married Sirius's paternal aunt. |
ZJFS chapter 1 . 12/4/2010 This is so bitter sweet! I totally wanted to sob at the end of the book. This is a nice way to bring Fred back in a sense. Sequel? EMinnis |
JustDanny chapter 1 . 5/14/2010 Cuuuute. And a bit sad, but full of hope. And fluff. Like it! |
theKRITIC chapter 1 . 10/21/2007 I like it a lot :) George is perfectly in-character for the story. |
link55-06 chapter 1 . 8/18/2007 Great mooning portrait of Hogwarts? LOL. Fred will do that! Macgonagall will surely resign as the Headmistress. Fred's insult still very creative. Good for George. |
Kryssa chapter 1 . 8/10/2007 One of the aspects of mourning that rarely gets mentioned in stories is the ability, the necessity of the living to keep on living; to keep going even when they would rather lie down and die. In many of the HP fics surrounding George and the loss of his brother, there is an overflow of tragedy that borders on over-dramatic. It is not to say that I don't expect sadness and sorrow, but that it is not in George's character to wallow in his misery. Thus, I found your story to be amazing in its regard for all aspects surrounding loss - including the moment when you start moving on. Each of the three sections of this story is like a facet of a gemstone. The first section tells of George's immediate action (though not necessarily ~reaction~) to the loss of Fred. This whole scene is poignant, heartbreaking in its near-banality; there are no tears, no screams, no 'crashes'. In fact, the little bits of humor scattered around - Charlie's offer of a drink, the possible portrait-related chaos Fred could cause at Hogwarts - make the loss all the more real, all the more meaningful. The Weasleys know they are going to keep on going without one of their own, and they're going to feel the loss forever, but they can still smile at memories and laugh at absurdities. Second scene: I really liked the idea of George commissioning a portrait of Fred as a way to "properly honor" his twin. He's acknowledged the loss and built something from it. And, of course, I really like how the whole thing has a ring of gentle humor to it. The Verity girl obviously knew her now-deceased boss, and it made me smile because it was so very true to the memory of Fred - more true than any dramatic epitaph carved into a headstone. Third scene: My favorite, though I really liked them all. When George sees his brother, I love the fact that it's an understated reaction. He's not weepy, dramatic, shocked, professing his brotherly love the minute he walks in the room. He sees his brother in the portrait and the banter is so natural that you'd never think anything had changed. It's a very adult, very guy-like reaction, but so subtly done that it resonated in my head. And George's only show of emotion - the four words - made me tear up because of how terribly vulnerable he was. He couldn't say it to Fred's face, turning away to protect himself because it still hurts, but gives a real smile when Fred insults a customer. Portrait Fred was wonderful; I really like the idea that even death can't keep him from being himself. Overall: I thought it was a great choice to never showed the toast they give to Fred, and that you put time in-between all three of the scenes. We don't get to see how George mourns in the quiet of the night when he's by himself, and I like that. It makes the actions that we ~do~ see so much more personal, as if these are the memories George himself chooses to remember. Why hold onto the pain when he can hold onto the joyful, gentle memories? You weave drama and humor so very well here, keeping everyone in-character and treating the tragedy with the respect it deserves - but still giving George the strength that we know he has. Sorry this review is so long, but I have a tendency to ramble and poke at stories that really capture my interest. Everything about this story is absolutely wonderful, and I'm so glad I managed to find it. |
