Reviews for To His Knees
Alice Barnes chapter 1 . 7/21/2017
I started to tear up while reading this! I love the movie Troy, and I have read a few of your other works so I knew this was going to be good. I feel as though this made the story of Troy more complete because you showed us what happened in-between Achilles finding out about Patroclus's death and his funeral. I really enjoyed reading this and could picture almost every sentence clearly because you had written it so well.
The Yaoi Goddess chapter 1 . 12/9/2012
This has to be the best depiction of Patroclus's death I've ever read.

Beautiful. It was simply beautifully tragic.
ILoveVampireDiaries chapter 1 . 2/26/2012
This was amazing, well done!

I think I cried when Patroclus died and when Achilles was burning his body. So heartbreaking :'(

Milanber chapter 1 . 12/16/2010
There is the quote that made me sudder:

"Achilles son of Peleus bent his knee to no king and paid homage to no god. Yet all it took was a boy with a heart full of undying love and devotion to bring the greatest warrior in the world to his knees."

In this one sentence, you manage to express all the tragic of this event. Good job ;)

Tori of Lorien chapter 1 . 5/23/2007
That was so sad! I can actually picture Achilles doing this, and it makes sense that Patroclus would be the only one to have that effect on him. I feel like crying now. Thanks a lot... Just kidding! It was wonderful, like always. I think you really are my long lost twin! Lol. Anyway, thanks for everything! It's so much fun getting to know you better. I hope you're having as much fun as I am. Talk to you soon, and keep up the great writing!

Luv ya lots!

...Wow. Whoa. That was...

I'm telling you, Halo, I'm speechless. Yes, even I, Brandi, am for once without words.

Okay. Found a few. Here goes.

This was lovely. The use of colors in the beginning was brilliant and very unique. I enjoyed letting the mental pictures form.

This story was so well-phrased and bittersweet that it had my throat constricting and my heart aching.

Your phraseology and characterization is impeccable. You even captured Eudoras wonderfully, and he seems to me to be a rather unfinished character, by the movie's standards at least...but you provide a very relatable personality for him. And Achilles...wow. You make him so REAL. You make the reader feel his pain, share in his grief, and suffer for his loss.

And how you incorporated that simple quote Achilles utters! "Someone has to lose." Someone has to lose, indeed. It makes you really think...how many people lost. Everyone lost, actually, in one way or another. That's a really interesting perspective. Thanks for giving me such food for thought.

Favorite lines:

"What was the last thing he said to his beloved cousin before the boy gave his all too young life for a cause the mighty Achilles had never believed in from the start?" - Wow. That is a beautiful sentence. It really speaks of the depths of Achilles' remorse. Had he only believed in the cause enough to fight for it himself, things might have been different. That must be a horrible realization.

"Achilles son of Peleus bent his knee to no king and paid homage to no god. Yet all it took was a boy with a heart full of undying love and devotion to bring the greatest warrior in the world to his knees." - That is so cute, it hurts. I always wondered how magnificent Patroclus must have been to inspire such admiration in a god-son. Poor kid never had a chance, but at least Achilles would remember him.

Again, bravo. This is gorgeous. I commend you, Halo, for such a bittersweet, marvelous piece.
Whilom chapter 1 . 5/20/2007
Am I the first reviewer? I'm shocked. This is truly amazing, Halo, in fact, better than the first. And I really liked the first. But this one I loved.

The beginning was wonderful, the use of colors extremely effective. I was holding my breath for Eudorous' answer and felt (oh this is hard to explain) in a -good- way that I didn't know the answer and I was worried. Um, well, basically, it wasn't that you didn't draw me in, it was like I was a soldier on the outskirts, watching the exchange, and I was super glad to not be in Eudorous' shoes when Achilles asked that question, and then when Eudorous answered, I thought, "Well, that's why he's Achilles' second." So, very effective little exchange there.

I haven't seen Troy in ages (last summer, was it?). Was that phrase really the last thing Achilles ever said to Patroclus? I began writing fanfic for it months after I'd seen it for the second time so I wasn't trying to hold on to key lines and all. I don't remember it being that, but I'd like to know what it actually was, ya know?

The last bit was great. Your title was great (I love creative, meaningful titles).

-sigh- I just LOVE Patroclus and Achilles fic, man! YES! Boy, I'm totally inspired now. Yes! Too bad I'm sick and I'm not going to stay up to write anything now -sniffle, blows nose and throws kleenex onto already accumulated pile-. Great job! WRITE MORE! ;) Love ya!
