AtheneMiranda chapter 8 . 2/27/2009 GAH. I finished reading this during the Lockout last week (no one could log into ff.n for an age there) so couldn't review, and now I bet I can't remember everything I wanted to say. But I shall try. God. First, the mutant clone girls, they always make me LAUGH SO HARD. The cardboard signs. THE MINK FARM, GOD. Their not yet having a stance on proliferation. The planeful of ferrets. The Otacon is not the girl. I LOL barely ever, usually, but these chicks have made me LOL mightily much. I adore them. You need to write & publish OF about them. Seriously. Second, the smut in this chapter is AWESOME. I guess it's the suddenness and the conflict of the moment or something, I don't know, but I found it very hot, even hotter than the bath scene in your other fic. Third, THE BRITHIPPIES. God. I know these people. They are among my best friends. Messy, resourceful, principled, ditzy and drugged-out and aware of things 'normal' people are told not to care about, crazy and unloved heroes. Mine were in Leeds, but I know these Bristol folks because they're the same all across Europe, afais, and you've drawn them perfectly, and there is SO MUCH LULZ in seeing how they get along with an AWESOMELY CHARACTERISED Snake & Otacon. And having them unlikely but truly up on Metal Gear proliferation and mutant ninjas. WIN. Fourth, the civil liberties thing - because Metal Gear cares about IRL, I LOVE reading Metal Gear fanfic that also cares about IRL. (Which is why mine has stuff like East African colonial wars, and how Frank Jaeger brought down the Nixon Administration, etc). Author-filibuster is CANON, thankyou Kojima. I don't recall ever reading a fic that cared about civil liberties in a post-9/11 world before, and it really fits with the story. And it fits with the crazy hippies being the only people aware enough to care. Fifth, your action makes sense and is awesomely fun to read. Thatrare. Otacon sneaking about and siphoning petrol, ftw. Sixth, again, the characterisation. I really like your Snake/Otacon; there are a multitude of ways to make these characters work right, and this is one of them, and it's one that I really really like. Because Otacon isn't being a wimp, and Snake has feelings, and you're not all sex and business, you let them get them stuck in traffic and Not Talk about their true feelings, you let them put stealth camo in the post, mingle with hippies, and wonder about the consequences of what they do. It's all in the detail, and I love it. I know you haven't updated this fic in a long while, but I hope you do come back to it one day, because I would love to see where it was all going. ("Laws Of Metal Gear, #27: For all unknown quantities, the answer is Ocelot" ?) |
AtheneMiranda chapter 1 . 2/21/2009 I laughed at so many little things in this chapter, especially 'Bad Hal'. But honestly, while the sex you write does add a lot to the intensity of everything else that's going on, the smut itself is fairly brief and banal. I feel like there could be a lot more description, thought and passion there than there is. I can understand not wanting to push the envelope here at ff.n, though. Means you need to come to mgs_ instead. :P |
AstroTurtle chapter 8 . 11/18/2008 GUH. This is AMAZING. Too bad that it was last updated a year or so ago though. If continued, this would be absolutely outstanding, good work! |
FluteWarrior chapter 8 . 5/31/2008 Oh my god... I want to read more! |
3OED3OFC chapter 8 . 3/12/2008 This is AWESOME. I love your stuff, and I've gotta say, I haven't had this much fun reading otasune fics in forever. Dude. Awesome. Whenever you feel up to it, you've got an avid fan who'd love to hit the next chapter of this. |
Seiyuki-chan chapter 8 . 1/20/2008 You write the best Metal Gear fics I've ever seen! Keep up the good work _ |
MsBokkyaku chapter 8 . 12/15/2007 This is so wonderful I'm in tears. It's realistic enough that it holds the feel of the games yet there's enough fiction in it to keep me interested. Not that I'm saying the games bored me but if there had been more subtext (yes, even MORE), it definitely wouldn't have taken me almost a month to complete. Eheh. I really hope you continue this. It's as well-written and entrancing, if not more, as Echoes, which I really really loved as well. You get so sucked into the story you can barely stop and before I knew it, I've finished all the chapters and was wishing there was more. I would seriously love it if I could print out future chapters and bring them to boring lectures to read. But I can't, 'cause there aren't any more. D; Which makes me so sad because this is honestly one of the best MGS fics out there. It's in-character, interesting, conceivable and so lovingly cute at all the right times. -adoring sigh- So...really hope to see more. Man, how I ramble on and on... |
innocent passerby chapter 8 . 11/21/2007 *wibbles* I was really starting to enjoy this. It's like reading an MGS game with delicious sprinkles of gay porn scattered about throughout it. I'm putting this on alert in case you decide you ever want to finish it. |
pcg chapter 8 . 11/16/2007 This is very, very good. Wow. |
Firefly99 chapter 8 . 11/15/2007 Okay, I had a really long review here, but broke and killed it. Let's see what I can remember. Um. I was initially turned off from reading this fic by the very sudden sex-scene that started it, but after reading closer, and further, I fell in love. Hard. I sat and read the whole thing with an utterly ridiculous, lobotomised grin on my face, which I'm pleased you didn't get to see because it was completely inane, but it's because this fic is made of awesome. Essentially, it takes the huge, broad Snake/Otacon ship, and condenses it into a joyous ball of Really Hot Men Saving The World And Having Awesome Sex. I don't know if it's because I've been on a Snake/Otacon fic binge lately, but I've had it with cookie-cutter hurt/comfort, and I'm so, so pleased that this fic exists to prevent me having to an hero myself. Where to start? The plot. I'm normally pretty allergic to ripped-from-the-headlines plots, but the Chinese satellite attack was so classically Metal Gear that it works. The story, despite having such a wide scope, is very tight - there's such direction and colour in it that I'm speechless. Your pacing is truly exceptional, and I'm shamelessly hooked as a result. Awesome awesome awesome. There's a sort of tongue-in-cheek sexy James-Bond-ish-ness to this, except for the fact that they're having to travel through the seamy underbelly of, er, ferret transport flights. The characterisations are great. You've admirably avoided the jet-black tar pit of writing a paired Snake and Otacon as stereotypical seme and uke rather than best friends, partners and equals. In a lot of Snake/Otacon plottyfic, I have to stop reading as soon as they hook up because their relationship stops being the way Snake and Otacon are, and just turns into a traditional dull romance couple. But that never happened at one point here. Their dialogue sizzles with chemistry, and the sex, while gratuitous, isn't so gratuitous that it gets in the way of the plot and characterisation. The first sex scene, although sudden, was particularly good, because of the casual way they discussed the details of their mission while they were going at it. I'll admit the only one I actually found hot was the one in Chapter 3, but that's because of my terrible fetish for Otacon being the sexually-aggressive one ruining the fun of the Snake-dominant scenes. If it wasn't because of my mental block I would have loved them. Okay, this wouldn't be a review without some concrit, but I don't really have a lot of negative things to say. I've already told you I found the first sex scene off-puttingly sudden, and you're probably sick of hearing it. The only other, extremely tiny thing that bugged me was the scene with the mink buns - since Otacon's Jewish, I winced a little when Snake tried to convince him they were pork. I'll admit I don't know if atheistic Jews avoid pork, but it just seemed so easy to avoid that it jarred. Overwhelmingly, what strikes me about this fic is its sense of fun. It doesn't take itself excruciatingly seriously like a lot of MGS fic does. It has a similar feel to some of the more light-hearted, comical moments in canon. Most importantly, I can sense from every word that you enjoyed writing this, and weren't just doing it to show how pretty you are. It's an utterly contagious sense of fun. Brilliant. I laughed, I grinned, I shivered with adrenaline, I giggled at Snake's opinion of England (I'm English). And I'm going to end this review with the obligatory demand to Write More, Please! |
livingsoul12066 chapter 8 . 8/22/2007 omg, I love this. great story, and most of all my favorite OTP. and I do congradulate you on doing your homework with this (or making a very believable bluff). can't wait for the next chapter! |
livingsoul12066 chapter 6 . 8/22/2007 now, this is probably my own fault (I haven't played the games myself) but who are these girls? nice chapter, btw _ |
PirateShotgun chapter 8 . 8/6/2007 First off, oh my sweet merciful god, I love you for updating. Everyday. Everyday I check and my heart nearly came up my throat I was so excited to see chapter eight. Hopefully I can put my words into a fairly well formed review... Hippies. Wow. I... I don't know what to say other than, they really are hippies... I feel bad, like, they really won't be of a terrible amount of help to Snake in their state of mind. But, he is motherfucking Snake and he will win, so, I have faith. The previous chapter had me super concerned. I didn't trust the hippies! Do I yet? Hmm... I thought, oh no, Snake is going in without any connections to Otacon and Otacon is being left alone, they're GOING TO DIE! Thankfully, no one died. Just had super rough sex instead, with the magic condoms that Snake always has on his person. I just imagine a situation where he gets caught, has his pockets emptied of guns, ammo, knives, cigarettes and the works, then... condoms. Anyway. It was fantastic, can always be longer, iloveyou, and I really am intrigued to know of this mystical plan that is coming about. As always, write more soon and thank you for the chapter! P.S. I love it, I love it, I need more, always! (Offers you five dollars and a plate of deliciously baked goodies.) Not that I'm bribing you to write...no... -PirateShotgun |
L.C.Burrows chapter 7 . 8/6/2007 I'm really blown away at the detail, style, and thought you've put into this. If this is second nature to you then holy shit you make my writing look like preschoolers work. It sounds like a lot of research went into this but I'm just assuming- and that happens when you stay up until 5:30 in the morning reading chapters 2-7 of a Metal gear fanfic that involves one of my favourite pairings. I'm absolutley blown away by this, floored even- it's so intelligent & well written that I have to read alot of it twice just to get it. I like the mischief, i like the yaoi. I like the whole thing. Write more, and write more soon. I'll be reading- |
superenzie chapter 7 . 7/11/2007 I usually like to wait until they're finished, but this fic is just too good. I haven't read a fic this great in ages, so I'm so glad to find this. And a fic with one of my favorite pairings too. Please, update soon! I'll be looking forward to it. |
