Aw I like your version better than what actually happened. You captured a lot of emotion very well. Great job. If you continued I would definitely read it, but it's awesome where it is.

Very plausible (except for Katara's kiss and everything before Katara using waterbending to help Jet remember) and very well-written. And the "As long as we breathe, we hope" line was a really nice touch.

I could also picture Toph and Smellerbee getting along as well.
