Reviews for Roots
Brievel chapter 1 . 10/13/2015
I tell you, mate, you've got a terrifying story going on here for a South Carolinian... although I was laughing hysterically for much of it.
creativesm75 chapter 1 . 10/5/2015
oh dear. Don't underestimate kudzu.
UnpublishedWriter chapter 1 . 9/5/2015
Oh, gawd, yes. Kudzu is EVERYWHERE down here.
linda barrett chapter 1 . 3/10/2015
adorable and funny
Brievel chapter 1 . 3/2/2015
...thank you for making me terrified of kudzu, especially since we have several patches not too terribly far away.
Crescent Moon Dancer chapter 1 . 3/2/2015
Bahahahahahaha! I lost it when Dr. McCoy first announced that it was kudzu, and I've been losing it ever since. xDxDxD Ohhhh gosh, I'm never going to look at kudzu the same way again - and where I live, there's plenty to look at. XD This is an amazing story - it's definitely going into my favorites.
The-Shepherd's-Daughter chapter 1 . 2/5/2015
How glad am I that I came all the way back here to read! What a mesmerizing story, and so original too! This has definitely stood the tests of time, it seems...

I agree that kudzu is the devil incarnate, even though I am not a native southerner. It gets into and devours everything!

Wonderful story with tons of humor and suspense! All of the characters were perfectly displayed.
AnnYepMe chapter 1 . 9/14/2013
I'm glad I jumped to the chronological last page of star trek tos fanfics, now! This is one of the best written, unique pieces out there. Thank you, for writing this. :-)
nitilia chapter 1 . 5/27/2013
Oh god, that was terrifying. We have an exotic invading plant in our area too, a thorny bushy thing that ends up taller than the trees sometimes, and covers acres and acres of land...if it ever turned sentient...*shudders*. Excellent story!
mtcbones chapter 1 . 9/21/2012
good humour. it sounds like some of the weeds growing in my garden.
Saavikam69 chapter 1 . 6/21/2011

ParchmentRose chapter 1 . 10/17/2010
This is absolutely hilarious. :D Great job!
Cryptix chapter 1 . 9/7/2010
That... was amazing. Absolutely amazing. I could totally see this as an episode, in the same sort of tone as Trouble With Tribbles - only with evil plants! Making it a real plant that people could actually recognize was great, and it being 'at war with the South'? Genius. Nothing short of genius. I'm a Midwesterner, m'self, so I can't speak for how bad it is in reality, but it's still wonderful.

Everyone was perfectly in-character - and I love that, for once, McCoy gets to be right, even if it looked like an overreaction at first. I loved the mindmeld, too, and the fact that you *didn't* have it think like a human. I've seen so many stories and settings where someone speaks to a nonhuman (or even nonsentient) being and it's just some Hulkspeak form of english, and it bothers me every time. Animals don't think in English, poorly-constructed or otherwise! D

Seriously, I could go on about this thing all day.

I only have two things. One, there was never any discussion about what the plant was feeding on. I admit I'm not a botanist, and I'd never even heard of kudzu before this, but still - don't plants need nutrients to grow? Especially those with, y'know, roots? Such rapid growth without any sort of intake doesn't really make sense. Well, I suppose it actually makes plenty enough sense for Star Trek, but still - I cut the original show some slack for being in the 60s, but I expect more from modern depictions.

Two is a minor copy thing. Way down where Spock is going to mindmeld with the thing, he says "I would like to being the meld immediately". I think you meant 'begin'. Like I said, quite minor.

So... yeah. Holycrapawesome. Totally looking up the rest of your stories now.
space trio chapter 1 . 9/13/2009
