This is exactly the kind of Zoe/Wash backstory I needed to read.

So I read this story on A03 and was going to try and find it on livejournal (I'm on a mission to read every wash/zoe fic ever) (then firefly fic in general) and accidentally found it here! Which is great because i LOVE this so much!

Such a good job! It seems astonishing that this fic has had so few reviews in eight years, or that I can like it as much as a person who read when Firefly was still fresh. *-* It puts in words everything Wash and Zöe are: sweet, funny and a little tragic. Thank you very much for the read!

I'm so glad I clicked on the link. This story is amazing. I love how the action didn't take a back seat to the romance... And now I've turned into the biggest Zoe/Wash shipper ever. Good job!

Hey, this story needs more love. I quite enjoy the characterization of Wash in this; it's so... Wash... that it makes me laugh even when it isn't funny. Can't wait to see what happens in upcoming chapters!

I could have sworn I reviewed this when I first read it years ago, and was horrified to find out I didn't.

I'm not going to be able to do this story justice in the time frame I have to write this before I have to leave, so let me just say this - this story has personally taken over any headcanon I might have had for how Zoe warmed up to Wash. I don't care if Joss ever gets around to addressing that in the comics, I really don't think he can top this.

I know this was written a while ago, but I just stumbled on it.

I have to give this two thumbs up, it was funny, romantic and had good action parts also. You captured the characters, especially Zoe and Wash perfect.

I especially liked how you wrote Wash, to many authors in my opinion write him as either weak or simply as clown. I always saw him in the show as someone that had a basically cheerful disposition, but who if the events called for it could show a lot of strength and determination.

Just had to write another review to let you know I've re-read this story twice since first finding it several weeks ago. It is so much fun, and so well written. In my mind, it's practically become an actual episode. Another great line that I love, and I wish I could steal it for my fanfic (but I won't) is:

"Something broke loose inside Wash in that moment. He'd kissed plenty of women in his life but for some reason, this time, some vital part of him knew that from now on – for him – there would only be this. This woman, this feeling. Wash didn't simply resign himself to his fate; he welcomed it."

Really, really great story! Terrific dialogue, descriptions and characterizations. I can picture everything as if I were watching an actual filmed episode. So many great lines, including:

"Zoë eyes were wide, and Wash could feel his heart pounding thunderously in his chest. His breath came shallowly as he looked at her. If she was going to kill him, she'd better do it now."

I loved it! You should write another story about them lol! Seriously!
