Mechabeira chapter 1 . 5/30/2013
Wow.

What works for me here is the in-and-out in the very beginning. De-centered, confused, hurt. Searching, searching.

And then. The finding, the assurance. It's OK, even if it isn't.

Brava.
Freakin' Yoda chapter 1 . 7/29/2012
Very nice. Enjoyed this piece very much. Very well written. Great job!
Anicomicgeek chapter 1 . 4/21/2008
I have to aadmit that I'm guility of something another reviewer did and didn't think that Jim would've thought Barbara was dead when reading TKJ. That said, it does make sen that he'd think that. Anyway, this was pretty good work you did of this story. It is pretty powerful and awe-inspiring. Good job.
Ebony Secrets chapter 1 . 6/10/2006
This piece was absolutely awe-inspiring. Because the ideas behind this scene were never incorporated into the comic, it left you leeway for good or evil, and this was definitely good!

I loved certain lines, such as this one: “He'd not thought about it, not seen her in her coffin in her best suit, not envisioned the inscription on her gravestone, not thought about whether people would notice the coincidence in timing of the death of the commissioner's daughter and the disappearance of Batgirl.” It just is so morbidly accurate in what Jim would have been feeling at the time, it literally made me shudder. The whole piece just used the most poignant phrases and words…

Fantastic work!

TesubCalle chapter 1 . 5/19/2005
I've been waiting for a fic like this.

Personally, I've been too repulsed by the whole notion of 'The Killing Joke' that I never bothered to read it.

But I always wondered what Jim's thoughts might have been; *must* have been, upon seeing those gruesome photographs of Barbara.

You told this superbly. I could feel my own stomach twising into knots at Jim's anxiety, grief and horror. Your descriptions were perfect and I think you really got inside Jim's state of mind and emotion.

Again, superb job! Keep up the excellent work and keep writing.
Susan Hillwig chapter 1 . 5/19/2005
Wow, just...wow. It never occured to me, reading TKJ, that Gordon might think Babs was dead. Wow.
Well Done chapter 1 . 5/18/2005
that was beautiful, very sad (obviously), but still really beautiful
robster72 chapter 1 . 5/17/2005
Very powerfully written. I thought you wrote his grief and emotion very well.
Aranel Took chapter 1 . 5/17/2005
Barbara and Jim are two of my favorite characters. :-)

Great description and character development. I really get a sense of Jim's resignation, thinking that Barbara had died.
