I read this story ages and ages ago and I love it just as much now on the reread. I love peaking into Hughes' thoughts during this battle. Maes is so in character here. I adore the humor early in the story as well, heh it really does sum up how much Mustang was leading and manipulating that fight until he suffered the flashback. Lovely story and well written.

Good Hughes perspective! I never thought about him watching that fight before, what he might have seen... Nice idea for a oneshot.

This was great! You got all the characters right and it was very interesting to see the Flame vs. Fullmetal showdown through Hughes's eyes. Good job!

A wonderful take on an excellent episode. One of the things I love about FMA is all of the unspoken, underlying story...and the wonderful fans, like yourself, who interpret the untold story so beautifully. Thanks for sharing.

What a crying shame this hasn't received more reviews. This is a wonderful look at one of the best known episodes in both the anime and the manga. You did an excellent job getting into Hughes' head. *faves*

My second favorite. I -loved- this episode, and I wish I had thought to write a Hughes POV of the fight myself. I also liked how Hughes' view of Ed and Roy and their relationship was written; Ed trying to prove himself, Roy trying to protect him, and his concern for both of them. You also managed to get some nice bits of humor in.

My one beef is that I disagree with you about Hawkeye being Mustang's girlfriend. She's his subordinate and while there's certainly something unspoken there, there's no relationship yet, especially not at this point. Somehow I can't see Hawkeye putting up with Mustang dating other women, a la episode 37. She's probably shoot him.

you are extremely truthful in narrating the story with Maes' pov. You have a deep understading of both the characters and the story, and are respectful of both.
