Great full fan chapter 1 . 12/24/2012
Thank you! I was so worried I was sick and twisted because I love this stuff. I didn't understand myself and why I loved it. But thanks to you, I get it. You just took some stress off my mind, I'm not worried at I'm messed up in the mind anymore. Thank you so much!
cjn chapter 1 . 10/25/2012
Hear, hear!

You said it all very nicely. Now I know why I seem to be attracted to more and more fanfictions that involve Holmes or Watson getting hurt badly/ or get an illness or something.

Thanks for writing this :)
BakerStreetIsLastRefugeOfHope chapter 1 . 2/6/2012
Great monograph on the phenomenon of authors torturing Holmes with lots of injuries.
Mrs.Bones23 chapter 1 . 12/26/2011
That is so true! I do it all the time with Sherlock, and other characters as well (Carlise Cullen, Spock, Damon Salvatore - same personalities) I couldn't figure out why it was so great but now I realise! Thanks! Great explanation! :D
Creatura chapter 1 . 9/1/2010
Well, this makes me feel better as a reader! XD
Isis the Sphinx chapter 1 . 1/31/2010
Yes! Thank you for this, I had wondered myself. I really like reading the stuff.

Keep writing!
Anawey chapter 1 . 1/7/2010
Excactly!

At first, this almost sounded a bit scathing, so I was going to mention the whole deal with 'Sherlock torture' being made just to see the emotional connections that build him back up and the care from his friends, but you said it for me.

I completely agree with you. The reasoning all makes perfect sense, and perhaps, makes what we all presumed was obvious - but could perhaps never grasp just WHY we thought it was such - a bit clearer.

I agree whole-heartedly *thumbs up and a big grin*
frangipaniflowers chapter 1 . 3/27/2009

A.K.Rai chapter 1 . 10/23/2008

Lady Razorsharp chapter 1 . 3/21/2005
How true, how true! I was beginning to think there was something just dreadfully wrong with me as I sit here and ponder (not even consciously, sometimes) the newest whatever to subject Mr. Holmes to.

I agree that it's useful in deconstructing him, shattering his icy exterior. He's so impervious to everything that it's a very tempting thing to take up the icepick, no?

From another, who is shameless! :)
Sweet Sakura Curls chapter 1 . 10/11/2004
Excelent! You've hit it right on! Great essay!
Karen chapter 1 . 8/8/2004
Hum, I've been thinking here, I'm extremely new to the whole Sherlock Holms universe, and as of yet not read any of the storys, but recently started watching the tv series probably closest to cannon starring the lovely but sadly missed Mr Jeremy Brett. I was wondering whether this has anything in common with what you are indicating.

It's simular to the Harry Potter, Prof. Snape torture fics - undoubtly Alan Rickman had a lot to do with Snape's appeal, much like Jeremy's Holms. Please forgive me if I sound completely out of my league.
Daroga's Rainy Daae chapter 1 . 5/1/2004
Actually that's not it at all. Torture-of-hot-characters turns me on.
...
I'm sure you're disturbed. So am I.
Danny Barefoot chapter 1 . 12/9/2003
Holmes has a few rather black periods in the stories doesn't he? 'Reigate Squire', close of 'The Red Headed League', drug abuse, and all that? The point about Holmes as I see it, ditto for Albus Dumbledore and the Patrician of Ankh (Discworld), is that competence is what they are, even in the direst state. He wouldn't be Sherlock Holmes otherwise, and maybe that makes him less than human, or more perhaps. I can hardly talk to someone as well up as you seem to be on this subject, but that's just my idea of him.
