Love your story! Really glad to see another chapter and can't wait for the next one. You mentioned wanting some ideas, so here's what I got ...
- Some focus on apparating
- Vacation in France with Fleur and family (maybe some basics on curse breaking or something she is good atPossible point of contention with Bill and Fleur
- No dementor attack since Umbridge would know Harry is with Sirius and Black wards are infamous (maybe a bounty team sent after Harry, Neville, or both insteadNeville as prefect
- Neville attends holiday party at bones manor as thank you for their efforts in 4th year; harry attends and starts relationship with Susan, Sirius gets with AmeliaSirius or other members of the order attacked throughout the school year
- Harry leads defense group with help from Neville and others; possibly using different room than RoR to keep it secret for their personal training

I've said it before and I'm saying it again: leaving things as they are, unchanged with the initiative in the other camp, that isn't very smart of Neville. Especially when you don't really let things stay the same. You just don't introduce major changes that you *know* will throw the script away, instead there are tons of minor differences that will play havoc using the butterfly effect. Worst of all, you can't plan for these differences, because you don't know what has changed and what hasn't.

Since you asked for feedback about ideas for Neville's 5th year, I guess I should start with what I said above. While Cedric didn't die - and I'm glad about that - Voldemort's resurrection is now not the fanciful tale of a delusional liar Harry Potter, but a truth the ministry isn't willing to admit to.

As soon as people notice that those speaking out aren't acted against in a public forum, they will make up their minds and believe the worst of the ministry, as is usually the case about politicians in any society I know of. Furthermore, they fear Voldemort enough that they're not going to sit idly by and let the ministry spin down the drain with Fudge at the rudder.

If Fudge starts acting against the loudest voices anyway, then he hasn't made his calculation with the Longbottoms in mind. I can see that Fudge will still send Umbridge to Hogwarts, I can see her going off on her own and all the terrible consequences of that decision. All of this will cause a major difference on the political playing field, because there are some voices the ministry can't silence and I dare say that once Fudge learns of Umbridge's actions, she'll soon be on her own, because there are some voices he can't silence. Add this to the backdrop of a wider populace fearful of Voldemort's return and the Minister will be very constrained in what actions he can take.

Meanwhile, as Voldemort isn't the secretly resurrected Dark Lord like he was in canon, what purpose is there for him to lay low? As an insurrectionist and terrorist, he has always achieved the greatest power not through secrecy and guile but intimidation and terror. He also has a cruel streak a mile wide, so I can't see him just doing nothing for a whole year when the circumstances are so different compared to canon.

How will Neville feel as he sits in Hogwarts and realizes that his minor changes have kicked off the war a year sooner, while he has mostly left them to their planning uninterrupted? Will the one life he has saved be worth all the other losses as Voldemort and his Death Eaters wreak havoc across the country? If the Dark Lord returns to his usual modus operandi, a good number of kids will leave their 5th year to an empty home or an orphanage.

Honestly, this interpretation is possibly one of the most pessimistic ones, but it doesn't feel that far off course. By this point, the Harry Potter books have evolved enough that such actions aren't totally unthinkable. What were children's books in the beginning are by now young adult novels and the grittier of them put teens into difficult adult situations they aren't ready for. If you were to ask me, that's not what I would like to read, so I hope your direction isn't quite as negative.

Despite this spot of criticism or my general disagreement with your protagonist's actions, I can't deny I'm having fun reading this story. Don't let this kind of thing get you down, after all it's your story and if we readers are so set on a situation ending in a certain way, then we can always write our own stories. That said, I hope you as the author are seriously considering what the protagonist's actions mean, because I don't get the impression that he's fully aware of it in this story.

Enjoying the story so far. Small correction, you described Neville's occlumency as being 'like a strong autoimmune response'. I think you mean a strong immune response; an autoimmune response is when your body fights itself instead of an illness.

azkaban; douse all prisoners with draught of living death and place them in some random cave under the fidelius swear the guard to silence and you wont even need to inform the minister just involve bones. make azkaban into a trap with either fiendfyre of muggle explosives.

capture the dementors in an expanded chest and send it throught the veil or lock it into a gringotts vault. though this would conflict with the plan for an azkaban trap, but it might be better then giving voldemort the dementors

see if you can make a marauders map for the ministry but add some features; like an intent color coding perhaps even isolating the magical signature of the dark mark so it shows up on the map.
have bones make a coup of the ministry by then arresting every death eater during a wizengamot meeting. if the longbottom family and other supporters know then it is a 'legal' coup. cant have maybe death eaters running arround while there is a war veritaserum for everyone to be sure

sirius for dada teacher

contracts like hermione made for the DA only for the whole ministry. and instead of pimples just make their name light up on a list.

look at muggleborn parents for a soldier or contact the prime minister both for an adivsor and a skills, take a sniper rifle and charm it to be silent to have less recoil the barrel frictionless you can even request the goblins to make a few goblin forged bullets imbued with basilisk venom, though prob best to keep most details on fire arms away from them. then snipe voldemort from a distance. lets see him dodge a bullet from 1 mile away hell even 200m would be enough.

have harry go to the goblin curse breakers when his scar starts acting up whether they can remove it or not at least they can id it.

residents of hogwarts both students and teacher must walk through a hallway with wards to id intent of meaning harm to hogwarts, veritaserum the suspects and go from there.

see if you can modify the fidelius so you can hide knowledge. hide the muggleborn list (could also be in a safe) hide the fact that muggleborn are hated.

put a taboo on the unforgivables and display it on a map.

provide sanctuary for werewolfs during the full moon by hopping them around the world and thus avoiding the moon. then making them register and if the dont show up during the full moon hunt them down, veritaserum and if truly guilty execution.

make drones like those small ones with 4 rotors at each cornor only with magic so no need for rotors. again see if you can link them to a marauders map tat can find dark marks. use them to track the giants and one over every major magical population. fiendfyre the giants if they suddenly go on the move, or use a bigger version of a sniper rifle. hell use an enlargement on on make sure its properly charmed prob unbreakable aswell and you have a mobile tank.

blood bound emergency beacons that activate during a life threatning situation. would even be better to have them made into portkeys but thats prob a bit to much to ask not to mention any wards.

imperio any captured death eaters and have them go into a meeting with a big ass bomb with goblin silver imbued with basilisk venom. perhaps have house elfs deliver this kinds of bombs. or just a shit load of tnt.

make the drones capable of dropping these kinds of bombs, lets see a ward stop that.

animated birds stuffed with bombs.

animated spiders with goblin silver basilisk fangs that hone in on dark marks.

each and every plan behind a contract or fidelius

make a crime wall with a command tree of voldemorts army and files on every person of interest with threat assesment

like i said dozens of ideas, if muggles can fight without magic then with magic things shouldnt be so hard
