You have pegged Emily correctly. She demands and willingly manipulates to get whatever she wanted: she has never allowed Lorelai to have a true say in her own life. So, Lorelai did what she had to do in order to survive: she left that hostile environment, unloving atmosphere. The severe and very belittling things that Emily continues to say to Lorelai are even now weighing heavily on Rory's mind. Emily seems to believe that if she harangues negatively and long enough about Lorelai that she herself will be elevated in the minds of everyone else. I think that Rory believes the contrary. Glad Rory is better; glad that Lorelai's surgery went well. Now we just to walk for the test results. So glad that Babette and Luke (and literally all of the Stars Hollow crazies) are also there for Rory. Thanks. More soon please. And, we never need Christopher the slime!

Very scary. Glad Rory isn't in terribly bad shape, but it sounds quite dangerous for Lorelai. Good thinking Rory: keep the nasty/maligning Emily far, far away.
