Yo, this is sad as hell, B.

Only thing I have to say "bad" about it is that I think there wasn't enough of a time skip to justify this. Like, the FIRST time they did it, she had a kid? No shapeshift training? No reformation with the necessary parts? Just, the first time? Basically in space? Because they're all that they had?

No doubt, bubba, it was well written and I teared up, but the logical part of my brain that kicks off afterward can't help but point out these things. I'd have thought their relationship would have to bud over the years, as Connie grew distant being tied up at school or some such, then, another villainous conflict happens that puts them in the situation you describe, only growing the two closer.

Years pass, and they are officially together. Steven is by now completely an adult (mid to late 20's ), and they just now start discussing it. More time passes, eventually the decision is made, but, despite all the preparation, Steven is still sad and conflicted, and even Spinel is worried and having second thoughts. But... Nonetheless, unless they made a seemingly even harder choice, they were stuck with it now.

Fast forward to this fic. The family is gathered. Laughter, singing, tears of joy, tears of longing all around. Even Connie is there, having come back and remained friends with Steven and the gang after a rough patch. Steven and Spinel finally part after one last hurrah together, just as you've so well written here.

The light dawns as Steven holds his daughter, Connie, a hand on his shoulder, Greg and the gems surrounding him in support. They'll make it. Such is the way of life.
