Something's going to come along and upset their domestic bliss for lack of a better word. Angst is practically a prerequisite for a DE story. I think Elena instinctively knows that she's going to get hurt
even though she's sees helpless to not fall in love with him. I don't know about the wildlife that's native to where they are but hopefully they won't have to worry about that or lowlife's that drive the highways looking for an opportunity... Gary Ridgeway would pick up hitchhikers and hookers, granted Elena isn't that - he was convicted of killing 49 women but they believe he killed many more. He's known as "The Green River Killer".
