Reviews for What's in a Dream?
Dimac99 chapter 1 . 4/19
Oh my GOD! THE BURN! Yowch! I will say I absolutely LOVED Stars Hollow: The Musical, but in an OMGWTF kind of way. You pretty much nailed everything else. And I bet you could have doubled the length if you wanted - there was just so much whispers suck in the revival. Like, the least awful thing was probably that obvious and hideous hairpiece they shoved on Scott Patterson's head. But they massacred Luke's character, and that was unforgivable. Rory was a useless witch the whole way through. Lorelai was... Well, she had a few moments, but it was like she was stuck in time. I get that they had limited time, limited cast availability, and a large cast of characters to showcase, but apart from Stars Hollow: The Musical and A Second Film By Kirk, it was all pretty much a waste of time and effort. I realise writing a hit show isn't easy, but that's no excuse for the terrible stories and characterisations they gave us. However, you did manage a hilarious piss-take here so it's not the end of the universe. And you snuck in so many meta jokes I must have missed a few!
Y-Yukiko-Y chapter 1 . 1/21
After reading this, there's only one thing on my mind. And that is: Looooooooooooooooooove it
It was good, very good.
The revival was so bad, so not Gilmore Girls that till this day I still can't believe that was what we waited for so long. Can't believe that were the last four words of the show...so bad.
Anyway, your fic was wonderful. Just what I needed
Thanks for sharing it!

thank you for highlighting how RIDICULOUS the entire revival was.

You, my dear, deserve a round of applause

I absolutely adore this! The snark, the very real analysis cloaked in a very weird and realistic pregnancy dream, the call-backs to What's in a name? This was some good writing. Some damn good writing!
Ultrawoman chapter 1 . 5/4/2019
Thank you for this! :) I watched the revival precisely once (and even then I had to fast-forward a couple of times because I couldn't stand what I was seeing!) and cannot imagine ever watching it again. It made no sense, as your fic proved, and I am so glad to know so many people (you and all your previous reviewers) agree with that assessment. This was, without question, a good job, well done! :)

This is a wonderful piece of writing! I didn't see "A Year in the Life" and had no intentions of doing so. Now, with this, you've made me never want to see it. Period. I am not so fond of those "Nostalgia Revival" that seems to be the big thing this decade. Like with Gilmore Girls, they ruin the essence of what was once on air and we loved at the time; whether we were children, adolescents, or young adults. I recall an interview with Martha Kaufmann–one of the creators of FRIENDS–saying that there was no way in Hell she would ever do a revival of the show, it would just ruin it. The other former cast members agreed.

Rory and Jess were so in character here and you made me remember why I loved them so much in the original run. I don't consider seasons 5-7 to be canon at all, especially in respect to their characters. I thought ASP and the others completely ruined them and who they were.

That was fabulous! You had me at the Brady Bunch movie reference. So many great comments about the ridiculousness of the Netflix production. Why would Luke and Loreila remain suspended in time for 10 years? Why would Rory transform into a complete jerk? Excellent job!

Yasss, the revival made no sense! Luke and Lorelai wouldn't have waited that long to marry, and they certainly wouldn't have wanted to have kids. Luke was a family guy and bought that big house just to fill with potential kids, he never would have waited 10 years to discuss it with Lore.
Don't even get me started with Rory. The second Logan told her he wouldn't drop Odette to be with her, she would have left. She's too old to be messing around with a married, AGAIN. I also believe she would have gone back to school if she couldn't find a job. She wouldn't just be aimless, she would he working more on her craft, maybe she would even find she doesn't want to be a reporter anymore.
I think Emily Gilmore was the only realistic character in the revival. Going off on the DAR ladies was perfect, and moving to the beach is exactly what I believe would have naturally happened.
Great story

Girl!* That was perfection. Utter perfection. Every single word.

*Guy? I shouldn't assume.

Oh. My. Goodness. There’s just too much to comment on. Too much was perfect. I loved how you blended realities. This was epic and amazing and incredible and so very, very perfect. Thank you for righting the wrongs of that horrible excuse of a revival. I only watched bits and pieces because I just couldn’t. So much just didn’t make sense. Seriously! It’s been how many years and we’re expected to believe that not only has Jess never bought another car but that the piece of crap car he had in season3 still runs?
OctoberGirl82 chapter 1 . 3/16/2019
Oh my goodness! This is AMAZING! I love your work, and this particular piece captures just how awful the characters and the plot lines were for the revival. Such anticipation, only to be so disappointed by the actors portraying characters who looked like they belonged on my favorite show but behaved completely differently. I also appreciate the humor of turning it into a meta piece; thanks for sharing!

BRAVA! I am also going to believe that AYITL was a bad dream. You should send it toAmy Sherman Pallidino. Good play on the ‘This is Us’!i didn’t see that coming :)
LG chapter 1 . 3/14/2019
PERFECT. What we all deserved, really.
Also all the bonus points for having Jess say “this is us”
THANK YOU.

What a wonderful writing - it is so rich with delightful details. Friends warned me not to watch "A Year . . ." - and I didn't. I feel that I have been blessed by avoiding it and instead reading such great writings as yours. Thanks so much. Drop us more writings when you have time! You are definitely appreciated!
