Expanded scene... what your story invoked in my mind's eye...

"It's never going to be the same again, is it?" he asked... ...She felt his cheek against the top of her head. "Do you know the last time I felt this way?" he asked, a soft twinkle returning to his red eyes.

"When?" she asked, snuggling closer into his chest and smiling through her own tears at Mike's resilience.

"The day I sent you off to college," he answered with a slight twitch of his lip. He breathed in deeply, feeling the empty nest all over again, conflicted in his emotions... grateful for the bright future ahead of Steve and yet grieving the loss of their daily interactions.

He kissed the top of her head again and sighed, taking solace in the quiet comfort his daughter so wisely offered.

They sat that way for a long time.

How lovely to see a new story from you.
I always thought that episode wasn't finished properly and you did it , and did it justice, quite emotional.

Thank you for a new story to read and I can see where you are coming from as I to felt the sadness from both of them at the end. It is a pity the Micheal Douglas had chosen to leave as I always said it was the best cop show on TV.

To all authors on this site ; First of all happy new year to you all. Secondly I look forward to reading more of all your brilliant new stories in the coming year.

You're right. It was always weird that Steve didn't go back to his own apartment. Perhaps the producers and directors of the show thought we wouldn't notice. Your ending is so much better than theirs. It gives us a satisfying explanation but a sad closure to the final episode for us all with Jeannie there, as always, to give support to both her men as her heart broke along with theirs. I loved the emotional depth and extreme sensitivity you portrayed with all three of them. But, you know what they say... as one door closes another door opens and I like to think Steve would've gone on to great things just as Michael Douglas did. It's Mike I felt sorry for stuck with Dan Robbins. Steve had years ahead of him but Mike's career was heading to an inevitable, and eventual, close. There was an obvious parallel in real life and Karl never did get on with Richard Hatch which, eventually, led to the demise of the series altogether. But true friendships as deep as theirs never end they just go in a different direction, and I like to think they would always have been together both as Karl and Michael and their alter egos Mike and Steve. It's always good to see a new story from you. I just wish it had been longer.

I could see it happen exactly the way you told it. It would never be the same ever again. After this the lives of these three were changed forever.
I only had hoped Jeannie would have seen Steve as more than a brother. At least I sensed there was more.

Once again, you have captured them all so perfectly. They'll be okay, we know they will, but Mike's right, it won't be the same again, not quite. I always love seeing notifications in my inbox saying there's a new story from you, I'm never disappointed - well, except when the story ends and there's not going to be another chapter, lol! :) :) Excellent work as always, and a wonderful fic way to start off 2019. :) :)

Nice Coda...I had gotten kind of use to seeing Michael Douglas on the show...
