Reviews for Alain Journey
Mira Kial chapter 3 . 8/9/2019
This was an interesting development. I like what you said about wanting to write in a mature and realistic style, while still maintaining the fantasy elements. It definitely shows in your writing, and it's also what I strive for too. I liked the dynamic between Mairin and Alain, where Mairin is always excitedly answering questions while Alain is trying to be more held back. He seems to hold a lot of affection for her, but isn't sure if he's ready to commit to anything serious with her.

The only thing I had a problem with was Ash's mom's comment: "So you kiss and stuff?" To me, that just doesn't seem like something that a 30 or 40-year-old woman would say, especially a woman who is a mother, to whom kissing is just kind of a normal part of life, and not something novel and fascinating. It does seem like something that an adolescent would say, however. Like someone who is relatively new to the whole dating scene, and is beginning to explore their own attractions towards others. Anyway, sorry for the long rant. I can tend to take fanfics too seriously sometimes, haha! All that aside, you are improving as a writer, and it gives me great satisfaction to see it. Again, thank you very much for all the reviews you've left me, as well.

I loved the plot twists... Please continue the story... You are an amazing writer!
Mira Kial chapter 2 . 5/21/2019
Wow! Your writing style has improved phenomenally since the last time I read one of your fics. Your pacing is great - it's a good balance between action, description, and dialogue - and your dialogue itself feels natural and believable. I also like your foreshadowing; you've set up the main plotline very well.

You've raised some interesting questions about Arceus - your take on the Alpha makes him seem definitely all-powerful and all-knowing, but maybe a bit... forgetful? And the Distortion World - it's like Mairin can't remember anything about it, but suddenly the act of trying to remember it makes her start convulsing. Definitely makes it seem like Hell itself, something profoundly disturbing, without actually showing the reader what it is like. So it makes me think that you're going to show us the Distortion World at some point in the story, which would be interesting.

And I like your references to Ash's story without going into a detailed play-by-play. We've all seen or read the story of him getting his first Pokemon so it was unnecessary for you to go through that whole sequence, so I like the way you incorporated that into Alain and Mairin's timeline. Speaking of them, I haven't watched the Kalos arc of the anime, but so far Alain seems really mature and angsty while Mairin is younger than him, very bubbly, and they are very in love. The conversation where Mairin was scolding Alain for not listening to her and trusting her went over my head, just because I'm not familiar with their plot. However, I like the concept of them having to watch over this dorky little boy who is supposedly going to save the world a billion times. It's an interesting twist on the usual trope (a young boy is the "chosen one" and has to go save the world.)

I'm eager to see what you do next with this story. If I were to note anything that could improve, I would watch your use of ellipses (...). You use them a lot to end sentences or phrases, and while they can be effective to show a person trailing off mid-thought due to uncertainty or sadness, they can lose their effect if they are used too often within one chapter. So I would be sure that you only end a sentence with "..." if you're going for a specific effect. Other than that, I'm really happy about the progress you are making as an author. Keep going.
