Well in theory Fiendsfire might be able to destroy the soul so while the horcruxes not hit with the spell might still be able to bring back a form of Tom Riddle the original might have been erased from existence.

I honestly love Regulus, he's one of my favourite characters so I really enjoy stories where he lives, but I think in many ways this is even better then stories where he survives the retrieval of the locket. Because he was willing to, and in canon did, die defying Voldemort, this just happens to be a much more spectacular and successful defiance.
Kreature’s was a good POV choice and I really like how you’ve characterized Regulus in this. His view on why Andromeda is not someone he’d consider is quite a good point. Plus, he dies laughing, which seems to be an essential Black family trait.

I love it, Regulus’ death was amazing.

Honestly, while fiend-fire is cool and all, I think the addition of fiend-fire is up there with the Hallows on the list of seventh book asspulls.

I mean really, the last moment asspull introduction of a totally new spell out of nowhere with no build up or foreshadowing that can be cast by a complete moron and is capable of destroying horcruxes with ease is pretty shitty writing. And worse yet, it wouldn’t even have been hard to foreshadow this thing if she had bothered to think about it at all.

Fiend-fire was supposedly mentioned already in the big bad horcrux manual, but the characters apparently just didn’t mention it or think about it on screen at all until it showed up as a plot convenience to destroy the diadem and Hermione had to explain what happened. All JK had to do was just edit the scene where Hermione was reading from the book earlier and add a line or two about ways to destroy a horcrux that the Trio deemed too risky to try. Done! fiend-fire is foreshadowed.

But then again, the seventh book would have changed a lot if they had something concrete they could be doing with their time. The Trio didn't really have a plan other than spending months complaining on an aimless camping trip, waiting witlessly for a fucking clue-by-four to sneak up on them. The closest they came to a plan could be boiled down to hoping that lost artifacts of legend would miraculously drop in their laps eventually.

Hmmm. I can see this might really complicate the search for all the Horcruses. Sluggy will still tell them about the magical number seven. I suppose when Harry and Dumbledore get around to investigating the cave evidence of fiend fire might linger, but it doesn't lead to Reggie, does it? No fake locket or "piss you off" note for Moldy Shorts. Now Harry, Hermione and Ron have no inkling there might have been a Horcrux at #12 so no reason to confront Creature. Creature still has no reason to confide in any of the "filthy mudblood, half breeds and blood traitors". Dumbledore is still going to die atop the astronomy tower. Now you've created a wonderful plot hole. I hope you can fill it :). I guess the Dark Wanker could have screwed up as bad on all the Horcruxes and the prophecy orb could have turned black before Harry got to Hogwarts. Sorry, that just killed the story, didn't it.

Sure there would be other horocruxes that would allow Voldemort to return... but...
A- It wouldn't be this piece of soul as it was destroyed. But as shown by the diary, he could still come back, though it would be with the mentality/experience of the time the specific horocrux was created (Diary was made as a teen, Cup and locket seem to be in 20s)

B- If Voldemort was destroyed then, then it the Potters would have never been attacked. .. well by the big bad himself. As what happened with the Longbottoms had shown, just because the big bad was gone doesn't mean the danger of DEs is gone.

A pity he could not have done it from orbit. Definitely a different story.
