Had a thought for my own version of this, with a slight difference, to make it more uplifting, namely that she got Ruby to a stasis pod, so the much more advanced science of Starfleet could save her.

Not bad. Though you did nerf the federation phasers a bit. The Grimm should have been one and done with them only prooving a threat by overwhelming numbers.

It's rare for a story to make me cry, but this managed. I really hope you continue this.

It's been a long time since I've watched any TNG. I'm impressed by how well you captured the flavor of that feeling, to the point where I began to recall some of it, and mixed Penny into it.

Oh my friggin cookies, you had me crying so much with this, I had to calm down before I could write this. The emotional impact of this, especially Penny's memories... It was heart-wrenching.

If you ever decide to write a follow up story of Penny's time with aboard the Enterprise, I would definitely read it.

Also, that was most definitely a Relic at the end...

Good story, great characterization, and in a crossover setting that has a lot of potential yet is dangerously underserved.
