Throughout this story, the thought kept coming to me that I wished it was Endeavor being buried in a cardboard box in the backyard... I hate him the passion of a thousand burning suns.

It's so sad, they all look at everything from the perspective of how their 'father' views it, or how he interacts or doesn't with it. The lawn is immaculate, but it's just because Enji doesn't want people to think he's less than perfect. The gardeners deal with it. The tree in the backyard is where Touya would hide from his father. Enji never lowered himself to visiting the shed... I doubt he knows his children's favorite foods, or sports, or anything beyond what they can do for him and his plan to become Number One Hero.
He utterly controls their thoughts, their entire lives. And he's a monster who cares for nothing but his own reputation.

He deserves far worse than that scar High-End gave him.

I had to take a breather after reading this. It... It really hurt, especially when I tend to be really empathetic.

I am in awe at how well you portray the Todoroki family, and all the emotions that come with them. Touya seems like a very complex character to write for, but you've got him nailed to a T. Thanks for the chapter!

Argh, Endeavor is indeed trash, like someone else mentionned before, your depiction of him is amazing in that it's neither exagerrated or minimized. And children that are raised in abusive households without much external emotional support do end up in the long term indulging in self-loathing and thinking they must have done something to deserve that treatment, even when they're angry at that abusive parent and don't forgive him.
So I just wanted to say that I really enjoyed your writing, thanks !

What I appreciate the most about your fics- at least the ones featuring the Todoroki family- is that they are believable. You don’t exaggerate or minimize Enji’s toxicity and keep their familial dynamics mostly true to how I imagine they were in canon; despite the fact you clearly, and understandably, don’t hold the guy in your heart. A majority of the fandom likes to paint a picture of Endeavor that doesn’t really add up, to me, with some of the facts revealed in the manga/anime. As such, it’s difficult for me to find stories where he feels in character, but he does in yours and that’s a big part of why I love them. Personally, I think the bulk of the abuse in the Todoroki household was psychological, neglect and dehumanization gradually worsening as Enji’s obsession did, and I find it tragic that people don’t take that seriously and would rather assume ‘flashier’ types of domestic abuse, ranging from sexual assault (I don’t believe his relations with Rei were non-con. A woman doesn’t try to reason with her rapist the way she did in Shouto’s flashback and she certainly doesn’t tell him about her favorite flowers) to food deprivation (Seriously, does Shouto and his siblings look starved to you?) and so much more. There are different types of abuse and different types of abusers, not all of them as straight forward as popular media makes them seem, and it’s upsetting to think writers would rather use baseless violence to shock their readers into empathizing with a character than explore the complexity underneath these relationships. Well... that’s my take on it anyway. I’m no expert and mean no offence.
As always, your writing is great and Touya breaks my heart. I’ll stop rambling now.

OMG poor Toya. He didn't deserve any of that. He is such a brave and strong person.
I absolutely despise Endeavour. I hope people learn about what happened in Karma in Retrograde and give him his just deserts. I seriously want to see him punished in some way.
