Reviews for The Void Smiles Back
Ardwolf chapter 8 . 8/22
I really hope you come back to this story, it's *wonderful*. :)
Tjuparulla chapter 7 . 4/30
Epic story, if anyone can stop screaming in horror long enough to think Starfield does perfectly illustrate Louse's element. I was inspired to do a quick omake for the office scene...

"Would you care to repeat that? I seem to have had something in my ear." Starfield asked slowly, in a blur a knife appeared in her hand opening to reveal a wicked long blade. Before anyone could react she whipped it around until it hung for a frozen moment directly above her head before stabbing strait down.

Louse thought it really should say something that she was more surprised that the blade didn't come out her familiar's chin than anything else. But as Starfield started sliding the knife right down the middle of her face, to the choked off exclamations of the teachers, she had to look away.

This though brought her attention to her familiars feet from which masses of black tentacles were spreading covering the floor then walls in a mass of writhing black tendrils. Louse was proud she kept her scream to a squeak, pulling her feet onto her chair she glared at her familiar only to blanch seeing Starfield with half her face in each hand sliding off her head as easily as one might slip off a cloak.

Louse had seen a bit of what lay beneath her familiars skin before, it was like looking down a bottomless pit only relieved by twinkling stars seemingly hanging vast distances away. Now though from all angles the effect was far worse, her eyes hurt trying to make sense of the endless void, like someone cut a hole in the world and put a piece of the night sky in it's place. She closed her eyes tight.

"Now see here!" The headmaster shouted, his mouse clutched to his chest while backing away from his desk as tentacles swiftly wrapped around it, consuming the last visible vestige of the office. The only light now cast from the candles atop the headmasters desk sitting half submerged in the writhing mass.

The teachers stared with alarm at the organic alien walls of the cocoon in which they now found themselves, eyes opened and stared back. Mouths of every size burst forth across every surface opening with alien screams and tongues with far too many teeth or mouths of their own. Softly glowing white flakes like snow burst forth from nothing, swirling, hanging oddly in the air and muffling every noise such that Professor Colbert and Miss Longueville with wands out found they couldn't speak. Then every mouth moved as once and they heard the soft sickeningly sweet sound, like a whisper or shout from a great distance.

"Oh my apologies Headmaster, I just wanted to recreate a little piece of home, was it presumptuous of me to get comfortable? I hope I didn't make you feel like you'd been snatched away from your office? Unwillingly, unwittingly pulled from your comfortable existence, into a bizarre alien world whose rules you don't know and whose occupants you can't trust? How terrible, for YOU, that someone didn't care the slightest about ripping away all you'd ever known and now you don't know the way back."
OmegaUltima chapter 8 . 1/12
Dang it, I need more...blasted cliffhangers...
xbox432 chapter 8 . 9/8/2019
Ah, I almost forgot how amazing story/character Starfield is. :D Heh, it'll be hilarious to see how things progress as most conventional magics would be nigh useless, but some of the more esoteric things? I'm curious to see how some of them might interact with Starfield's unique biology.

Further, despite Starfield and Louise's... rather bumpy interactions thus far, I wonder what Louise will think once it clicks with her that someone finally stood up for her? As someone who's been in that kind of situation, there's little more uplifting than having someone do that for you.
Crookedly abnormal chapter 8 . 8/27/2019
Taylor (StarField) is always a bad-ass good girl (well most of the time anyway)
cko2 chapter 8 . 6/23/2019

captainwonderbuns chapter 8 . 1/23/2019
For someone who says they don't like writing you're really good at it. I don't know anything about Familiar of Zero, but I like this and hope to see more.
Mr. Cloak chapter 8 . 1/2/2019
AHAHAHAHAHAHA! Wow, that got my inspiration running for cosmic horror and seriously disturbing combat! I look forward to more (that I hope you post on Sufficient Velocity, since I usually check there, but I will be looking here too for more).

Your work is just. That. Good.

vmage2 chapter 8 . 10/1/2018
This story amuses me. Both my sadism and schaudenfreud are sated by this story. Well done. Very well done.
Guest chapter 1 . 9/20/2018
Sorry, but that's stupidly OOC. The idea that Taylor Hebert would simply agree to be someone's familiar is absurd. The argument for is that it is their customs? Why the fuck would she give a shit about their customs? I've seen the cross done much better.
Gremlin Jack chapter 8 . 8/30/2018
Most hilarious Guiche duel ever. Thank you for that.
