This was amazing!

I always wondered why everyone took sonics "death" so well... it felt so ubrupt and unplanned, and everyone was just acting like he was on vacation or something. Same with Sonic... I mean, he seemed to take everything in stride, and I know that IS technically like sonic, buuuuuut... man... Sega had some awesome story telling opportunities, and took none of them. You expanding on these really... kinda dark ideas is perfect!
Why can there be a cool dark sonic game? (Shadow the Hegie doesn't count... it's about Shadow)

So, I really enjoyed this!
You know, for the most part... I hate OCs (I'm assuming Gadget is an OC... I could be wrong) and like.. 99% of the time they're girls...
Idk, in real life, I'm a girl, but I absolutely hate it when the main character is an "empowered woman". I think its... ehh... not interesting tbh.
AND NOW, for the first time ever, I have found a male OC! Literally, of the hundreds of fanfics I've read, maybe once did a male oc pop up.

So, I already like Gadget a lot(cute name btw!)

Ahhh I cried ( this was so sad! Why ( and Infinite was so mean! I just want to hold sonic and tell him everything’s going to be ok...

Doing the math, 4 months, 16 days, and 11 hours after Sonic's birthday makes the date November 8th. Sonic Forces was released on November 7th. I don't remember anything from the game saying it took a day for them to find him, but I don't care since the story is great anyways. Really fixes the whole "Sonic was tortured for six months" and then is like perfectly fine for the Zavok battle. I'm rambling. The story's good as always, ready for the next one. Or chapter of another story. Whichever comes first. See ya.

I think my favourite part about Sonic Forces so far is that everyone has a different interpretation of what happened to Sonic during his imprisonment. And this is one of the most heartbreaking I've read. You did a great job.

i suspected that someone would be writing angst for today but i was NOT prepared for this.
like the part at the beginning with sonic is sad enough but then? oh no. his friends remembering and then he's not there? amy with the balloons? everyone thinking he's dead? destroyed me.
Also the part with gadget not having met him and amy talking about him? asdfghbfnghj

Oh, my goodness, my heart is broken into many pieces, and I loved this one-shot.

The idea that Sonic remembers his birthday while he is still a prisoner aboard the Death Egg is just so well done. The brief happiness that Sonic is experiencing when he thinks about his friends doesn't last long as he is dragged back to the harsh reality that he's not with them.

The way that you have described Sonic's emotions and his hostile banter with Infinite adds to the emotional setting and seeing Sonic trying not to give into his despair is poignant.

Also, Sonic's friends choosing to celebrate his birthday while mourning his death one of the more emotional moments and you did a great job writing Gadget since he is the outsider and the way he comforts Amy is perfect and in character for him.

This was an amazing one-shot 10/10 I will happily reread it again.

This was amazing. I started reading and was like “oh, this is cute, but what has Sonic acting like that?” And then everything happened. I actually have never thought of Sonic having to spend his birthday while still being captured. This was amazing.

no but seriously this was super good. i could feel what the characters were feeling, and gosh the first half with sonics nightmare? man.

i was almost expecting this to go on longer to when they finally found him, but i actually really like how you ended this. it was nice, and still obviously very emotional (i just wanna give poor amy a hug!)
