I came here after reading the first chapter on AO3 and HOLY SHIT THIS IS GOOD

Goodness, what a chapter. Excellent writing, character development, and a hot, sweaty & mostly-naked SPARTAN being precisely as un-sexy as predicted!

I look forward to every installment and boy this was a doozy!

I fundamentally dislike how you've treated John. So from now on, I'll skip anything related to him. On another note, the fight between Mai and Wrex was excellent. A Spartan III is a good match, in strength at least, for a Krogan out of armor. Obvious with Spartan Time they have the edge in speed and reaction time, but otherwise they're pretty well balanced. Obviously in armor, Krogan are much more outclassed, but I liked how Mai had to actually try in order to take him down.

That was a surprisingly good scene with the fight. I am curious to see the effects that it has on crew perception of Mai.

Mabye i missed it but what exactly was so different in the Halo universe that they are doomed.
Or more exactly why or how did they fire a Halo in this story. I cant see how Six and Jorge trading places could make such a diferenc. No flaming just curios. :)

Oh, that was my mistake - I got you mixed up with another writer who is a veteran. That's quite embarrassing of me. Sorry, everyone; my bad. Still, I think my point stands - veteran or not, your writing reaches a level of authenticity that is tough to achieve. It's clear that you've done a lot of work into getting it right, and trust me, it's definitely very appreciated.

To go a bit more in-depth on the characters, I like how you're fleshing out everyone, even the OCs. They're a small part of the story overall, but they really help the whole story come together. They aren't just nameless, faceless characters we're supposed to empathize with; rather, they have their own thoughts, and their own motivations. This chapter's attempted mutiny was brilliant in showing that.

That's not to say that the canon characters are slouches, though - they're all great, too. The extra bit of backstory you've given Garrus to help him bond with JD really helps to bring out the best in both of them. Tali as, basically, the little sister of the group being mentored by Wrex of all people is great - she really gives off this feeling of a girl who's in way over her head and who's gradually learning about that, but still refuses to quit. Liara is still new so we haven't had too much time to get to know her by comparison, but I'm assuming that she'll be really fleshed out once we get to Noveria.

And then there's Shepard. Your take on Shepard is, to put it simply, as brilliant as it is refreshing. She's the closest thing to a hero archetype this story has, but there are other things there, too - echoes of someone who's done bad things to bad people, and not necessarily for good reasons. It's clear that she's firmly on the side of good and then some, but her demons are what make her interesting.

Overall, you've taken a story that seems like it should have been focused on just JD and Mai and expanded it to include a whole host of other characters, all of which are unique and interesting to read in their own special ways. The characters are what make this fic as good as it is. I'd tell you to keep doing it, but it's been like 27 chapters, so I don't think we need to worry about that at this point. Frankly, I'm just excited to see what you do with not only the rest of the Mass Effect characters, but with the Halo side of the crossover as well. There's an entire other galaxy waiting to be connected to this one, and I am definitely along for the ride.

Find the best, and give them the best equipment. When that equipment breaks or isn't there...you still have the best. I wouldn't want to fight a Spartan even if they were naked and had nothing but a paper bag.

The last bit brings back memories though. When I was younger someone recommended I consider intelligence as a career choice. Said I would do well there. Hoo boy, never have I been so flattered despite disagreeing with someone. Takes a certain kind of person to do spooky stuff.

I loved the Mai vs. Wrex fight! It’s been a long time coming and you gave it the proper amount weight and visceral-ness. The pacing of the fight was great and on an unrelated note, Tali refering to boobs as bulkheads is for some reason, kinda adorable. Keep up the great work and stay safe.

Loved the chapter, the interaction between Mai and JD was great. Im excited to see how Altis plays out. It’s going to be interesting to see the rest of the crew see how Mai and JD react to the covenant, more than they already have. I hope Tali isn’t too shaken by the UNSC AI, but that seems like wishful thinking.
