The Crownless Queen chapter 1 . 5/25/2018 Ooh, I liked the relationship between Dedalus and Dudley in this (though i'm not sure how Dedalus knew so much about Harry's adventures, especially the Acromentula thing? I just don't see how he'd have learned of it...), and Dudley's character development was beautiful. And poor Hestia. She deserved better - also now I totally want to read all the things about her and Dedalus' friendship (cwl) Vernon was as despicable as always, of course, but you definitely wrote him well. I really enjoyed this. It was kind of a perfect look at how this year must have gone for the Dursleys and I loved it. Nice work! Cheers! |
Haleyhmweasley chapter 1 . 5/19/2018 Dudley's not a character I think about that often, but I do really wonder what being in hiding was like for the Dursleys. It's interesting to see that explored in a story. One thing I really like about Dudley and Dedalus becoming friends is how different they are. You'd never expect it, and you do a good job of making it believable that they'd eventually find common ground through things like magical creatures. Dudley definitely seems like someone who would be fascinated by different creatures like acromantulas and dragons and things. It makes me wonder if he would ever ask Harry about them later in life, after the war. |
MissingMommy chapter 1 . 5/20/2018 I love your take on Dudley and co going into hiding. Dudley seems to have finally realized that Harry was putting himself in real danger. He grew up a lot after the Dementors, and I like that you showed it. The way that Dudley bonds with Dedalus is really quiet sweet. But I mean, he did spend like nearly a year with only Dedalus and Hestia for company besides his parents. There was a high chance of him getting friendly. The only thing is that you first say they were gonna drive for about ten minutes before Apparating, and then in the next scene, they've been driving on and off. I got some thoughts about side-aling Apparation and cars and couldn't see tbat works lmao. But this was really great. I loved it. |
Ned chapter 1 . 5/16/2018 (why my laptop decided to post the review then I have no idea...) Anyway, I really liked that he ended up with the book at the end. It just shows how much Dudley has grown while in hiding and that he's not scared of the Wizarding World anymore. I can only hope he'd rub off on his parents, but I doubt that would happen xD But yes. I loved it, and I loved how you made Dudley more caring but in a way that made sense and wasn't out of character. Great job :) |
isaacswolfsbane chapter 1 . 5/16/2018 Bex! I loved this so much. I'm not usually one for Dudley, but I think you might be swaying me. This scene probably helped because it is one I remember being curious about reading the books. It just seemed to come out of nowhere Dudley being nice so to see him becoming so much more accepting while in hiding is fantastic! Dedalus and Dudley is such a strange concept; I'd never imagine them together, but it really works in this situation because Dudley isn't going to want to hang around with his parents the whole time, and he's the only one that will listen to Dedalus talking about the wizarding world. Them sort of bonding over magical creatures is so adorable, too. I'm glad Dudley ended up with the book |
Someone aka Me chapter 1 . 5/9/2018 I adore this fic. I ADORE it. I love seeing Dudley's side of "I don't think you're a waste of space" and everything that comes with. I love his relationship with Daedalus and Daedalus talking about getting a little too excited and HESTIA AND THE EMOTIONS WHAT THE HELL I'VE NEVER HAD EMOTIONS ABOUT HESTIA BEFORE I love seeing the dursleys talk sense into vernon like bro do you wanna die? I thought not. I love the running theme of Fantastic Beasts and the way Daedalus gives it to Dudley in the end makes me so happy sad ahhhhhh I love the scene where Dudley waits up for Daedalus and then KNOWS SOMETHING IS WRONG but he can't quite tell what and he lets it go and THEN THEY TALK Basically I love everything about this fic and I need more Dudley Dursley in my life. |
jennybenny2845 chapter 1 . 5/8/2018 I’ve always wondered what happened to the Dursleys after they left Privet Drive, so it was nice to read your take on that here. I particularly liked that you wrote it from Dudley’s POV, and I could see this fitting easily into canon. The parts from canon you incorporated worked well. Ngl, I *always* tear up when Dudley asks why Harry’s not coming with them. Dudley’s change in his feelings towards wizards/witches showed his growth as the story progressed. I liked how Dudley felt proud of himself for not flinching when Hestia touched him, which is one step toward him realising that wizards and witches are human like him. The unlikely friendship between Dudley and Dedalus made me smile, and I enjoyed their interactions. Great nod to Fantastic Beasts. I liked that Dedalus told Harry’s story to Dudley, and maybe having an outsider tell the tale would make Dudley believe/appreciate it more? I would have liked to see a bit more of Dedalus telling Dudley Harry’s story and Dudley’s reactions to it. Nice pacing and flow too. I’m curious as to whether Dedalus and Dudley continued their friendship post-war, and I would have loved to read a scene with them meeting in Diagon Alley to catch up. Great job! |
hmweasley chapter 1 . 5/6/2018 This is my first time reading a story from Dudley's POV, and I think it's very interesting how you incorporated different moments of him learning about the wizarding world. It has to be quite a shock to realize that the cousin you taunted for most of your childhood is viewed as a hero. I really like being able to see the change in perspective Dudley goes through. |
Sylphrena33 chapter 1 . 4/11/2018 I really like this. I love the friendship between Daedalus and Dudley. I'd love to see a continuation of this, maybe another oneshot interaction with the two of them, after the war. |
